Dark Match:
* Daniel Bryan b. Drew McIntyre
We get a quick graphic that lets us know that tonight’s show will be dedicated to the ‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage before the standard WWE opening plays. Following this, we get a video package that highlights some of the main feuds heading into tonight’s event.
The pyro hits and Josh Matthews welcomes us to the PPV proper. There are a couple of sport’s cars on the ramp, and there’s a ‘speedometer’ framing the tron. R-Truth is the first man out to the ring, and he makes his was out with no music.
Singles Match
- Rey Mysterio vs. R-Truth
Truth has a mic and he tells Seattle not to boo him, and that they should be booing themselves. Truth says when he got to the arena today he didn’t have a parking spot. He says as a result he had to park with the rest of the people in the arena, and walk in the rain. He says that might work for some of the ‘stank-ville hippies’ in Seattle, but not him. He says he’s danced and pranced, and it’s gotten him nowhere, and he’s not dancing to the crowd’s tune anymore. Truth says he’s not playing games anymore because games are for kids. Truth says that Mysterio plays games. He comes out wearing a toy mask that everyone in the crowd is wearing now. Truth says Rey wants to slide into his spot, and tonight Truth will take his spot, and anyone else’s spot that he wants. That’s the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. Mysterio’s music hits, and he ends Truth’s rant, coming out to a big pop from the crowd.
The start:
The bell rings and we’re ready to kick things off for the night. Both men lock up and Truth backs Mysterio into the corner, shoving him on his way out. Mysterio comes back with a quick kick, but Truth drops him with a big right hand. Truth sends Mysterio into the ropes, Mysterio ducks Truth and comes back with a kick to the chest before pulling down the top rope and forcing Truth to fall over and to the outside.
Mid-match notes:
Mysterio goes to the apron and launches himself off and into Truth with a big hurricanrana to the outside. Mysterio sends Truth back into the ring and he follows, going up to the top. Truth knocks Mysterio down and Mysterio ends up in a tree of woe with Truth kicking away at his gut.
Truth beats on Mysterio in the corner until it’s broken up by the ref. When Truth goes back he gets a drop toe hold into the middle turnbuckle, but Mysterio’s advantage doesn’t last long as Truth sends him running head first into the steel ring post before Mysterio falls to the outside. Truth rolls Mysterio back into the ring and goes for a pin but only gets two. Truth tries to hold Mysterio down, but Mysterio works his way up to his knees, then feet. Mysterio works Truth over with a couple of kicks, but Truth comes back with a kick to the gut, and a big sit out front suplex, which is good for another near fall for Truth.
Truth rips at Mysterio’s face in the ropes before kicking away at him, and stretching Mysterio around the ring post, holding his arms and legs and pulling back, forcing Mysterio’s stomach into the post. Back in the ring and Truth suplexes Rey, setting him down stomach first on the top rope. Truth goes to the top rope, but Mysterio catches him with a couple of punches and kicks before hitting a giant bulldog from the top. Mysterio goes for the pin, but he’s only able to come up with a two count. Both men get to their feet and trade blows, and Mysterio comes up with a kick to the gut and a big springboard splash, good for another near fall.
Truth tries to push Mysterio away, but Mysterio comes back with a kick to the side of the head. In the corner, Truth tosses Rey to the apron, and he’s able to fight Truth off and hit a seated senton from the top, but Truth comes right back with a big spinning elbow that puts Mysterio down for a two count. Truth goes for the axe kick but misses. Mysterio rolls through and Truth catches him again, but Mysterio sends Truth into the ropes into 619 position.
The finish:
Truth avoids the 619 by going to the outside and Mysterio follows to the apron, but Truth pulls his feet out from under him and Mysterio crashes face first into the ring apron. Truth rolls Rey back into the ring and hits a reverse Russian leg sweep, as he pins Mysterio and gets the three count.
Winner – R-Truth
Following the match, Truth grabs a bottle of water, waits for Mysterio to get to his feet, and uses the bottle to hit Mysterio in the side of the head. Truth leaves Mysterio laying as he heads to the back without music, just as he came in.
Miz is standing backstage with Todd Grisham. Miz says the way he’ll get Cena to quit tonight is something everyone has overlooked, just like everyone has overlooked the fact that Cena has never faced the Miz in an I Quit match before. He says the people that don’t think Miz can win tonight are the people who thought he’d be fired three days after coming to the WWE, who thought he’d be the first unsuccessful MitB challenger, and who thought he’d never be WWE Champion, but he’s proved them all wrong, and he knows exactly what it takes to win. And by the end of the night, Cena will say I Quit, and Miz will say he’s the Miz and- Riley interrupts, saying I’m the new WWE Champion.
WWE Intercontinental Championship Match
- Wade Barrett vs. Ezekiel Jackson
After a bit of back and forth between King and Lawler that plays out like everything else between them over the past few months, we get a video package that shows Ezekiel Jackson’s ejection from The Corre, and his repeated attempts to get back at them.
Wade Barrett is the first man out to the ring, and it’s worth noting that he’s by himself and does not have Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel in tow. Jackson is the next man out, and he gets an OK reaction, but neither man is blowing the roof off of the arena by any means.
The start:
The bell rings and both men eye each other for a bit. Jackson grabs Barrett’s arm, but Barrett breaks the hold. Barrett kicks Jackson in the gut and beats him into the corner with a couple of blows and a head butt, but when Barrett locks in a front face lock, Jackson simply tosses him away. Barrett tries to go to the outside, but Jackson grabs his arm and pulls him back into the ring to continue delivering punishment.
Mid-match notes:
Barrett is able to come back with a couple of right hands, but when he tries to whip Jackson across the ring, Jackson doesn’t budge, instead he throws Barrett over the top and to the outside. Barrett gets Jackson to chase him out of and back into the ring, but when Barrett tries to kick him, Jackson catches the foot and hits a big clothesline instead.
Jackson sends Barrett into the turnbuckle hard before taking Barrett to the opposite corner and laying in with kicks and punches. Jackson sends Barrett into the ropes and hits a big back elbow to take Barrett down, and the crowd really doesn’t seem to be enjoying this one. Barrett stalls the ref for a while before coming up with a big clothesline and sending Jackson into the steel ring post, shoulder first, two times. Barrett goes out to the apron and hits Jackson with a big kick to the head while Jackson’s head is next to the ring post. Back in the ring, Barrett pounds on Jackson for a bit before going up to the second rope and coming off with a big elbow drop, which is good for a near fall. Barrett locks in a rear chin lock, trying to wear Jackson down.
Jackson is able to power out of the hold, but Barrett fights back, getting Jackson up in position for the wasteland. Jackson fights out, but Barrett is able to hit him with a low kick and a pump handle slam, which is good for another two count. Jackson gets up with a big punch to the face that sends Barrett to the outside. Barrett gets up to the apron, and Jackson sends him headfirst into the turnbuckle before bringing him into the ring the hard way. Jackson hits a couple of big shoulder blocks before connecting with a splash in the corner. Jackson picks Barrett up for three consecutive bodyslams, then a fourth. Slam number five, and the crowd is finally beginning to come alive.
The finish:
Jackson gets Barrett into the torture rack, and here come Gabriel and Slater to break things up.
Winner by DQ – Ezekiel Jackson
Jackson is able to fight off The Corre for a bit, slamming both Slater and Gabriel, but the numbers game pays off and it isn’t long before Jackson is laying flat backed on the mat.
Slater and Gabriel get Jackson up to his feet and hold him so that Barrett is able to administer and sick big boot. Barrett asks for his title, and talks a bit of trash to Jackson before posing with his belt, and teammates, to the crowd displeasure.
CM Punk is shown walking backstage alongside Mason Ryan. They walk into a dressing room to find McGillicutty and Otunga laid out. Punk says this is a good thing, it proves that they’re under Big Show and Kane’s skin. Ryan is upset as he thinks Punk doesn’t care about Nexus. Punk says he cares more about them winning the titles tonight. Punk and Ryan walk away, only for Punk to walk back and tell the two hurt members of Nexus to ‘walk it off’.
Singles Match
- Chavo Guerrero vs. Sin Cara
Sin Cara is the first man to make his way out to the ring for the next match, and he gets a fairly respectable entrance, though I’m sure the WWE is still hoping for more in terms of crowd reaction for this man. Chavo is out next, and he too gets a bit of an apathetic reaction.
The start:
The bell rings, and Cara’s special lighting for all of his matches goes into effect. After a lock up we get a bit of quick chain wrestling from both men, trading hold both standing and down on the mat. Cara hits a nice snap mare, and follows up with a beautiful headscissors that sends Chavo to the apron. Cara knocks Chavo from the apron to the floor, and he follows out with a beautiful corkscrew plancha, landing on his feet.
Mid-match notes:
Cara charges Chavo and ends up being backdropped, but Cara uses the ring ropes to go back toward Chavo and connect with another headscissors. Back in the ring, Chavo is able to catch Cara off guard with a couple of quick blows, but Cara dropkicks Chavo low, causing Chavo to hit the middle turnbuckle face first. Cara goes to the top and hits a beautiful moonsault press.
Cara goes for a splash in the corner, but Chavo moves and takes this as an opening, hitting Cara with a couple of quick strikes. Cara is able to come right back with a big dropkick and arm drag, but Chavo comes up with a simple kick to the gut to take Cara down before simply laying in with a series of right hands. Chavo begins working over Cara’s knee, wrenching away at the leg, but Cara is able to kick him away. Chavo charges Cara in the corner but he’s backdropped out to the apron. Cara kicks Chavo in the face and Chavo lands on the outside. Cara runs to the corner, and leaps to the top turnbuckle, then over the ring post and out onto Chavo.
Cara sends Chavo back into the ring, and he follows with a big sprinboard hurricanrana. Cara psychs himself and the fans up before hitting a flurry of quick kicks. Chavo sends Cara into the ropes and Cara leaps right back out with a big kick. Cara connects with another arm drag, then a quick enzugiri. Cara, on the apron, makes his way back into the ring with a big springboard body press, but Cara can only come up with two. Chavo comes back with a head butt to Cara’s stomach, then he looks to try and lock in the Gory special, but Cara is able to counter out of it.
The finish:
Chavo goes for a belly to back suplex, but Cara fights out, comes up with a very sloppy headscissors that takes Chavo over, and goes for the pin, scoring the three count.
Winner Sin Cara
Todd Grisham is backstage with both Christian and his opponent for tonight, Randy Orton. Grisham says both men have been mutually respectful, but it’s time to tell the world how they really feel. Christian says he’s not mad at Randy Orton, Teddy Long, or anyone, because Randy didn’t do anything he wouldn’t have done himself. Christian says tonight he’s going to win back his World title, and Orton knows it’s true deep down in his gut. Orton says he respects Christian, and this is a feel good story, but he’s beaten Christian before, and when he fights a feel good story, there is no happy ending.
Alberto Del Rio’s personal ring announcer, Ricardo, is introduced, and he in turn introduces Alberto Del Rio, who makes his way into the arena in a Bentley.
Del Rio makes his way into the ring, and he seems a bit amused at the crowd booing him. He tells the crowd his name, even though he’s just been introduced. He says tonight he wants to talk about something no one knows better than him, and that’s destiny. He says he wants to talk about destiny because he personally finds the immigration problem in this part of the country disgusting, and that’s Canadian’s crossing the border every day. Del Rio asks the crowd not to get him wrong, he’s not angry, and he doesn’t even care, because he knows it’s their destiny to end up in a coffee house in Seattle, complaining about the weather or their miserable lives. He tells the crowd they may think he’s upset at not being in the WWE Championship match tonight, but he’s not, because he knows he could easily make Miz or Cena quit, and make them say ‘No mas, Alberto!’. He says it’s only a matter of time before he takes his place as the WWE Champion, and there’s nothing anyone can do, because destiny can no be stopped. He says it doesn’t matter if Cena or Miz wins tonight because it’s his time to be… But he’s cut off by Big Show and Kane, who make their way to the ring to a big pop.
Del Rio doesn’t look to happy about being interrupted. Kane grabs a mic and says that he’s already angry since the Rapture didn’t come yesterday, as he was looking forward to it. Kane says if Del Rio doesn’t get out of the ring, his destiny is going to be ending up just like Nexus from earlier this evening, and Big Show says that’s a punch in the face. Del Rio looks more than happy to oblige, getting out of the ring quickly.
WWE Tag Team Championship Match
- Big Show & Kane (c) vs. CM Punk & Mason Ryan
Punk and Ryan make their way out to the ring to a bit of a mixed, although still subdued, reaction.
The start:
Kane and Punk look to start things out, but Punk backs away from Kane as soon as the bell rings, and he tags in Ryan instead. Ryan and Kane lock up and Ryan quickly pushes Kane back. The crowd is chanting ‘Batista’ at Ryan. Ryan comes up with a big shoulder block that sends Kane down to the mat.
Mid-match notes:
Kane kicks Ryan’s knee before hitting him with a couple of big right hands, but Ryan comes right back, scooping Kane up and slamming him to the mat. Ryan clotheslines Kane in the corner, before tagging out to Punk. Punk runs right into a big right hand before Kane slams him, head first into the corner turnbuckle and tags in Show. Show comes in, chopping Punk across the chest before walking across him back. Show holds Punk up in the corner again, hitting him with another huge chest chop. Show picks Punk up again and Punk turns around, so Show chops his back. Punk is able to come up with a low dropkick to Show’s knee, and make the tag to Ryan, who comes in with a huge clothesline to Show.
Ryan wears Show down a bit for Punk, but when Punk comes back in, Show is quick to pick him up in a bear hug, and tag out to Kane, who comes in hitting a big boot on Punk, before hitting a running clothesline in the corner. Kane drops Punk with a sidewalk slam that’s good for a two count. Kane goes to the top rope and comes off on Punk with a huge flying clothesline. Kane goes for a chokeslam on Punk, but a distraction from Ryan allows Punk to kick Kane in the side of the head and tag out to Ryan. Ryan sends Kane to the outside where he’s quickly ambushed by Punk. Ryan follows to the outside and shoves Kane back first into the ring apron.
Back in the ring, Punk tags in yet again and begins working on Kane in the corner while Show gets the crowd hyped up. Pukn hits the running knee in the corner, but when he tries to hit the bulldog, Kane shoves him away. Punk comes back with another running knee, before tagging out to Ryan. Ryan comes into the ring, shoulders Kane and runs him into the corner turnbuckle before hitting a big powerslam that’s good for another two count. Ryan locks in a front face lock, but Kane fights to his feet and Ryan turns it into a bear hug instead. Kane fights out of this too with a series of right hands, but Ryan shoulders Kane again. Ryan goes to the corner, but Kane fights out of it, shoves Ryan into the corner, and follows up with a big suplex.
Ryan is able to tag out to Punk, who stops Kane from tagging in Show. Punk beats on Kane before dragging him toward the corner. Punk goes to the top rope and point toward the sky, going to a big ‘Macho Man’ style elbow drop, but Kane moves and Punk misses. Both men make the tag, and Show comes in with a huge clothesline on Ryan before absolutely squashing him in the corner and laying him out.
The finish:
Show sets Ryan up for the chokeslam but Punk is in and both men fight out, only to eat a double clothesline from Show. Punk is sent to the outside, and Kane and Show hit a double chokeslam to lay Ryan out. Show pins Ryan, and this one is over.
Winners & STILL WWE Tag Team Champions – Kane & Big Show
In an extremely goofy move, there’s a ‘dream segment’ showing what it might be like if President Obama held a press conference about WWE Capital Punishment. This is real footage of Obama interspersed with questions being asked about WWE Capital Punishment. This is a terrible segment.
WWE Divas Championship Match
- Brie Bella (c) vs. Kelly Kelly
Brie Bella is the first woman to make her way out to the ring, with her sister Nikki in tow. Kelly Kelly is out next, and she gets a good reaction from the crowd.
The start:
The bell rings, and Nikki distracts Kelly, allowing Brie to hit a quick kick off the bat. Kelly is able to come back quickly, wrapping her legs around Brie’s head and choking her. Kelly pushes her behind into Brie’s face repeatedly, but she’s sent to the outside where she’s attacked by Nikki.
Mid-match notes:
While trying to recover, Kelly has her hand stomped on by Brie. Brie brings Kelly back into the ring and goes for a quick pin but she’s only able to get a two count. Brie begins working over Kelly’s arm, wrenching it and slamming Kelly’s face into the canvas before locking in an arm bar.
Kelly tries to fight out of the submission, but Brie is relentless, wrenching away at her arm and shoulder. Kelly is able to fight up to her knees and out of the hold, eventually getting to her feet and hitting a very sloppy Thesz press. Kelly hits a kick to Brie, before slamming her face repeatedly into the mat. Kelly goes for the pin, but she’s only able to get two.
The finish:
Kelly begins stomping away on Brie, but the referee pulls her away and Nikki makes her way into the ring. Nikki hits a quick face buster, and pins Kelly, getting the three count.
Winner – Brie Bella (kind of)
World Heavyweight Championship Match
- Randy Orton (c) vs. Christian
Cole makes his way to the back, taunting Lawler on the way, and thank God we won’t have to have his commentary for hopefully the rest of the night. This segues right into a video package for the World Heavyweight Championship match, showing the events that have led up to this match.
Christian is the first man out to the ring, and he gets a nice reaction from the crowd as he makes his way to the ring. The Champion, Randy Orton, is the next man out to the ring, and he gets, unarguably, the biggest pop of the night so far. Orton makes his way out to the ring slowly and methodically, as usual. We get formal ring introductions for both men, and we’re ready to kick things off in this one.
The start:
Both men circle before locking up and Christian goes for a quick roll up, trying to end it early, but Orton kicks right out. Another lock up and Orton locks in a side headlock, wrenching away. Christian fights out but walks right into a big shoulderblock that’s good for a near fall.
Mid-match notes:
Orton locks in another side headlock. Christian is able to fight out of it again, hitting Orton with a shoulderblock of his own. Christian goes up to the middle rope and hits a big dropkick that puts Orton down for a two count. Christian slaps Orton in the mouth, but walks into a big back elbow from Orton. Christian retaliates by back dropping Orton over the top rope and to the outside, and following up with a big dropkick to the outside through the middle and bottom ropes. Christian goes to the outside, hits Orton with a couple of rights, then rolls him back into the ring.
Christian picks Orton up for a big slam, then he locks in a rear chin lock. Orton is able to fight up to his feet and out of the submission, but he’s caught with a quick dropkick from Christian which is good for another two count. Christian hits a snap mare and locks in another rear chin lock.
Orton is able to fight out of the hold again and he comes back with a big standing dropkick. When both men get back to their feet Christian slaps Orton across the face and goes up to the top turnbuckle. Orton stops Christian, seating him on the top turnbuckle and laying into him with a series of right hands. Orton goes up too and takes Christian off with a giant superplex. Orton pins Christian, but he’s still only able to come up with a two count.
Orton is the first man up to his feet, and he lays into Christian with two big European uppercuts, but on a third attempt, Christian reverses into a backslide for a two count. Orton comes back with another big clothesline, but Christian retaliates right away with a huge spinebuster that’s good for a two count.
Both men get to their feet and begin trading blows in the middle of the ring. The crowd seems to be getting more and more begind Christian. Christian hits a big reverse DDT, but it’s still not enough to hold Orton down for three. Christian goes back up to the middle rope and leaps off, but Orton catches him and rolls him up for two. Christian reverses it and gets a two count of his own. Orton pops Christian with a big European uppercut, and Christian is quick to come back with an arm drag. Christian goes to the outside and tries to come up with a big right hand, but Orton fights it off and almost connects with his rope assisted DDT. Christian fights it off, goes to the top turnbuckle, and leaps off, hitting a big flying head butt, pinning Orton and getting a two count.
Christian gets back to his feet first, but Orton comes up with another European uppercut, and his signature backbreaker, which is good to keep Christian down for two. Orton begins stomping away at Christian’s joints, wearing him down even further before hitting a big knee drop and going for another cover, getting another two count. Orton picks Christian up to his feet and Christian looks to lock in the killswitch. Orton fights out and goes for the RKO. Christian fights out and goes for the killswitch again, but Orton fights out and locks in the Billy Goat’s Curse (Colt Cabana’s finishing submission). Christian is able to make it into the ropes to force a break.
The crowd is chanting for Christian. Orton throws Christian into the corner, but walks into a big kick. Christian fakes Orton out, causing Orton to prematurely go for the RKO, and Christian jumps off the middle rope, rolling Orton up for a two count. Orton sends Christian into the corner, and Christian goes for hit signature kick, but Orton blocks it, and hits his rope assisted DDT instead. Orton pins Christian, but Captain Charisma refuses to stay down.
Orton falls to the mat and begins psyching himself up for the RKO. Christian makes it to his feet and Orton goes for the RKO, but Christian pushes him away and Orton falls to the mat. Christian begins calling for the spear. Orton stands up, but when Christian goes for the spear Orton connects with the snap powerslam, but it’s still only enough for a two count. Christian struggles to get to his feet, so Orton sets up for the punt. Orton begins going for it, but he stops himself. Orton resets himself, but when he goes for the punt, Christian connects with the spear but he still can’t keep Orton down for a three count.
The finish:
Christian claps his hands to get the crowd behind him, and when Orton gets to his feet, both men go for their finishers unsuccessfully. Christian goes for it again, but Orton fights out, and connects with the RKO. Orton pins Christian, and this one is over.
Winner & STILL World Heavyweight Champion – Randy Orton
Orton celebrates with his title while Christian looks on disappointedly from the mat. Orton begins to leave the ring, but he stops on his way out, instead turning back to Christian. Orton picks Christian up to his feet, but Christian turns away, heading out of the ring before walking right back in. Christian holds out his hand and both men shake, but Christian still looks very upset as he makes his way out of the ring and to the back.
Kiss My Foot Match
- Jerry Lawler vs. Michael Cole
We get a video package highlighting the events of this seemingly unending program between these two men, that hopefully will be blown off tonight. Jerry Lawler is the first man to make his way out to the ring, and he gets a good reaction from the crowd. It blows my mind that the King is able to draw better reactions that half of the roster, simply because he gets to punch Cole. Michael Cole is out to the ring next, and he’s still in his suit, and limping as he makes his way down the ramp.
Cole grabs a mic and asks for the attention of the fans in attendance. He says as much as he would like to compete, he’s medically prohibited. He asks for the understanding and compassion of Lawler, as well as the fans. Cole says there’s nothing he’d rather do than stick his foot in Lawler’s mouth tonight, however his doctor states that Cole can’t compete because his athlete’s foot has become infected, and it’s unsafe for Cole and Lawler. Apparently if Cole puts his foot in Lawler’s mouth, Lawler will contract a disease, so Cole is prohibited from competing. Cole shows his doctor’s note to the referee, but the referee tears it up and has the bell rung.
The start:
Lawler begins beating on Cole in the corner immediately, and when Cole tries to crawl away, Lawler rips at Cole’s suit, tearing it to shreds. Lawler hits Cole with a big right hand, and follows it up with a dropkick that sends Cole to the outside.
Mid-match notes:
Lawler follows, and Cole begs off before slamming Lawler face first into the steel ring steps. Cole gets back to his feet and shoves Lawler into the barricade. Cole sits on the ring steps and takes off his shoe, then his sock, which is covered in filth. Cole puts his foot in Lawler’s face, so Lawler grabs it, puches Cole, and absolutely launches him through the Cole mine, destroying it in the process.
The finish:
King sends Cole back into the ring, and he goes up to the middle rope, jumping off and hitting Cole with the flying fist drop. Lawler pins Cole, and gets the three.
Winner – Jerry Lawler
Lawler begins taking off his show, but he stops, savoring it. Lawler calls to the back, signaling someone, and Eve’s music hits, and she makes her way out to the ring. Eve stands over Cole before she goes to the corner. Eve goes to the top turnbuckle and launches herself off with a big moonsault to Cole. Lawler finally takes off his boot and takes in the fans chanting his name. Lawler calls to the back again, and this time, it’s Good Old JR, Jim Ross, who makes his way out to a huge pop.
JR’s got a bottle of his BBQ sauce in his back pocket, and he shows it to the crowd to another big pop. JR takes the top off of the bottle and begins using it to douse Cole. Cole has had enough and he crawls to the outside and makes his way to the back. Lawler is pointing at his foot, but Cole says ‘not like this’, and refuses to go back to the ring. Cole has a mic, and he says it may look like he lost tonight, but he didn’t lose because he’s no loser. Cole calls Lawler a loser, and JR an even bigger loser, before calling the crowd losers. Cole says no matter what happened in the ring, Cole never did, and never will kiss his foot. Cole is interrupted however, when Bret Hart’s music hits, and the Hitman makes his way out!
Hart backs Cole back to the ring, where he tosses him in to Lawler. Hart grabs Cole’s legs, and locks in the Sharpshooter! Lawler uses this opportunity to shove his toes into Cole’s mouth and force him to kiss his feet. King’s music hits, and he, Hart, Eve and JR celebrate while Cole gags on the mat. As Lawler, Hart, and Eve make their way to the back, JR hops on the announce team, and it looks like he’ll be joining in for the final match of the evening.
“I Quit” Match for the WWE Championship
- John Cena (c) vs. The Miz
We get a recap of the events of the last month, since Extreme Rules, when Cena regained the WWE Championship for the first time in ten months, that have led to this match.
Justin Roberts gives us a quick run down of the rules, which basically state you can do anything you have to, to make your opponent say ‘I Quit’. The Miz’s music hits, and the challenger is the first man to make his way out to the ring, and of course he’s got Alex Riley in tow, carrying his briefcase. Cena is the next man out to the ring, and he gets a mixed reaction, but it’s safe to say that most of the voices in the crowd are for Cena, at least at this moment in the night. We get formal ring introductions for both men, and we’re ready for tonight’s main event.
The start:
The bell rings, and Miz asks for the referee’s mic. Miz says out of all the matches Cena could have chosen, he chose an I Quit match. Miz says there are no rules, and that means Miz could hit him with a chair, throw him off the stage, or batter him with the steps, but that means Riley can do it too, so Miz is going to give Cena a freebie, and give him an opportunity to quit right now. Cena says ‘hell no’. Miz goes for the clothesline but Cena ducks it and gives both men a series of clotheslines before he backdrops Riley and hits a facebuster on Miz. Cena hits a gut wrench suplex on Miz and goes for the STF, but Riley breaks it up and begins laying into Cena with right hands.
Mid-match notes:
Riley hits a big suplex on Cena before going back over to the Miz to regroup. Cena is able to back drop Riley to the outside, and he comes up with a couple of big shoulderblocks to Miz before hitting a big belly to back suplex. Cena goes for, and hits the five knuckle shuffle, but when he goes for the AA, Miz fights out and hits a quick combination neckbreaker. Miz goes for the SCF, but Cena fights out and hits the AA. When Cena gets up to his feet, he’s blasted by Alex Riley and the briefcase. Riley uses the briefcase to repeatedly slam down into Cena.
Miz and Riley pick Cena up and they seat Cena on the turnbuckle. Both men shoulder Cena and take him down with a double powerbomb. The ref asks Cena, but he won’t quit. Miz and Riley pick Cena up and toss him to the outside. Both men are quick to follow and they pick Cena up, only to ram him back first into the barricade. The referee asks again, but Cena won’t quit.
Riley takes some of the padding off of one of the ringside barricades, and he and Miz throw Cena into that barricade. Another question by the ref, and another refusal from Cena. Miz and Riley begin dismantling the announcer’s table, Riley holds Cena up and Miz blasts him with a monitor, Riley follows by blasting Cena in the head with another monitor, but Cena still refuses to quit. Cena tries to fight back with a quick flurry of offense, but Miz is able to send him crashing into the ring steps. Miz stands on the steps, and plants Cena with a sick DDT. Miz rips the mic out of the referee’s hands, but Cena still won’t quit.
Miz tells Riley to pick up the steps, and he tells Cena, Riley will smash Cena’s ribs unless he quits. Cena says ‘go to hell’, so Riley brings the steps crashing down on Cena’s ribs, but Cena still refuses to die. Riley heads back into the ring, and he grabs Cena’s arms, keeping him standing on the outside. Miz goes under the ring and grabs a kendo stick, telling the crowd to be quiet. Miz says he’s giving Cena an opportunity to not have so much pain put upon him. He tells Cena to quit, but Cena says Miz hits like a girl. Miz lays into Cena with a nasty kendo stick shot to the gut, then another, then a third. Another hit from the stick and Cena still won’t quit.
Miz hits Cena with a rapid fire series of about ten kendo stick shots, but Cena still refuses to quit. Miz lays into Cena with another stiff shot, but Cena still won’t give. Miz and Riley picks Cena back up to his feet and slam him back first into the barricade, and they begin fighting up the entrance ramp. Miz and Riley slam Cena down onto the entrance ramp, before they go all the way to the top. Miz hits Cena with a suplex, planting him on the steel ramp, but Cena still says ‘no’ when the referee asks him if he quits.
Miz measures Cena and runs right up to him, hitting him with a giant kick to the face that sends him crashing to the arena floor, but Cena still says ‘no’. Miz instructs Riley to grab the boom camera and Riley holds Cena across the boom, while Miz makes the camera man give him his belt. Miz tells Cena he’s going to whip him repeatedly. He says this will hurt twice as much as the kendo stick, but Cena can save himself the pain. Cena says Miz has the strap, but he has no nuts. Miz begins whipping Cena repeatedly, but Cena will not give up.
Miz whips Cena rapid fire style, but it still won’t be enough to put Cena down. Cena tells Riley to go back to the ring to grab something. Miz begins bringing Cena back toward the ring, and Cena fights back with a couple of quick punches. Cena sends Riley into the steel ring post, but Miz comes up with a chair, and he uses it to blast Cena across the back. Miz rolls Cena back into the ring, and he grabs the chair, bringing it in with him.
Miz goes for another chair shot, but Cena’s up and he’s laying shots into Miz left and right. Riley comes in and Cena sidesteps him, sending him straight into the ref and knocking him out. Miz is able to lay Cena back out. Miz props up an open chair in between the middle and top ropes. Miz gets Cena in SCF position, planting Cena face first into the seat of the chair wedged in the ropes. Riley gets the mic from the ref and Miz holds it in Cena’s face, but Cena still won’t give.
Miz asks the fans in attendance if Cena is their guy, and asks if they want to see him endure any more pain. He tells a kid in the crowd to tell Cena to quit, but the kid says ‘never’. Miz hits Cena in the forehead with the mic, and tells the kid that this is his doing. Miz tells the kid to ask Cena to quit, but the kid won’t do it. Miz lays into Cena with another mic shot to the head before he traps him in the exposed barricade, wedging him in. Miz grabs a chair and says he will hit Cena repeatedly if he doesn’t quit. He tells Cena that he can’t quit this match, and Miz will not stop until Cena says those magic two words. Cena says those kids are smarter than he is.
The finish:
Miz takes the chair and uses it to blast Cena (and mainly the barricade). Riley holds the mic to Cena’s face, and a clearly recorded John Cena’s voice comes over the PA, saying ‘I Quit’, and this one is over.
Winner & NEW WWE Champion – The Miz
The referee goes for the belt, but he finds a phone, and he begins listening to it. The ref waves off the win, and it looks like this one isn’t over. The ref holds the phone up to the mic, and the recorded voice plays over the PA again. The ref says the match will restart right now.
Miz and Riley go to the outside and Riley tries to blast Cena with the title, but Cena ducks and Riley connects with Miz instead. Cena hits the AA on Riley, sending him through the announcer’s table. Cena turns his attention to Miz, and begins pulling his belt off.
Cena whips Miz all the way up the entrance ramp. At the top of the ramp, Cena locks in the STF, and it doesn’t take long before Miz quits, ending the match, for real this time.
Winner & STILL WWE Champion – John Cena
The referee hands Cena his title, and Cena holds it up at the top of the ramp while the audience cheers. The PPV ends with Cena holding up his belt and walking toward the back.

Last Man Standing Match
- Randy Orton vs. CM Punk w/The Nexus
It looks like we’ll be kicking things off with the Last Man Standing match as Justin Roberts begins running down the rules before introducing Randy Orton, who comes out to a monster pop. Orton makes his way down to the ring, and it looks like our announce team for the night will be Matthews, Lawler, and Booker T.
CM Punk is the next man out to the ring, and he makes his way out to a bit of a mixed reaction, with the New Nexus in tow. Before Punk is able to make it all the way to the ring though, the lights dim as we have an announcement from the Raw GM. Apparently, Orton and Punk must resolve their issues tonight, and all members of Nexus are banned from ringside. The members of Nexus psych Punk up before leaving the ringside area.
The start:
Punk stalls on the apron for a bit before jumping into the ring. The bell rings and we’re ready to kick things off. We get a slow start as Punk tests the water with a kick. This doesn’t last long though as Orton lays into Punk with a series of punches and a big clothesline before kicking Punk out of the ring. Orton follows and slams Punk into the barricade, then the ring steps. Orton slams Punk into the steps again before ripping at his face and clubbing his chest.
Mid-match notes:
Orton sends Punk back into the ring and Punk begs off before catching Randy with a big kick. Punk follows up with a kick to Orton’s head before he tries to slam his head into an exposed turnbuckle cover that Punk exposed before coming into the ring. Orton tries to fight it off, but Punk takes Orton down and hits a knee drop to Punk’s face. Orton is able to fight back with a big snap mare and a knee drop of his own to Punk’s chest.
Punk goes to the outside and under the apron and when Orton approaches, he ends up eating a couple of kendo stick shots for his troubles before being thrown back into the ring. Punk grabs another kendo stick and makes his way into the ring behind Orton before slamming down with the stick across Orton’s chest. Punk poses while Orton gets a five count before standing. Orton gets to his feet and hits Punk with a massive European uppercut. Orton goes for a kendo stick, but Punk is able to catch him with a kick to prevent being hit. Punk grabs one of the Kendo stick and tattoos Orton across his back.
Punk picks Orton up for a big belly to back suplex and the ref begins the count again, keeping Orton down till 7. Punk goes for a springboard clothesline, but Orton comes up with a kendo stick and uses it to absolutely wear out Punk. Orton hits Punk with a couple of big clotheslines before hitting his across the back backbreaker. Punk rolls to the apron and Orton goes over and grabs him by the head, attempting his rope assisted DDT, but Punk fights out and slingshots Orton into the exposed turnbuckle cover. The ref begins the count for both men, but both are up by 7.
Punk wedges a chair in the corner in between the top and middle ropes before hitting the running knee in the corner. Punk tries to slam Orton into the chair but Orton fights out. Both men try for their finisher but can’t connect before Orton simply kicks Punk in the gut and throws him through the chair in the corner and to the outside. The ref counts, but only gets to 7 before Punk is up. Orton is right there to slam Punk back and forth repeatedly between the ringside barricade and the ring apron before powerslamming Punk on the arena floor. Punk makes it up by 8, and it looks like Orton is going to disassemble the announce booth. When he goes back toward Punk, he’s caught with a big boot to the mouth.
Orton is up by 8, and Punk takes him over to the announce table to slam him head first into it. Orton blocks and slams Punk head first into the table before picking him up with a belly to back suplex, and dropping him down back first on the barricade. Both men are up at 6 and Orton throws Punk into the ring, where he follows and immediately psychs himself up for the RKO. Punk counters the RKO with a leg sweep, and he’s able to connect with the G2S. Orton makes it back up at 9 before falling back down and Punk is immediately on him with a couple of knees in the corner before going back to the outside and grabbing a chair. Punk slides the chair into the ring and gives Randy Orton a big Russian leg sweep directly on top of the chair.
Orton makes it up at 8 this time, so Punk sits the chair down in the middle of the ring before going to Orton and trying for another Russian leg sweep on the standing chair. Orton is able to counter, hitting the RKO and both men are on the mat. Orton makes it up at 5, and though Punk is slow he makes it up at 9 before falling to the outside. Orton is quick to follow and he clotheslines Punk over the barricade into the time keeper’s area. Orton tries for his patented DDT using the barricade on the outside, but Punk fights out and slams him back first into the ring post. Orton is up at 8, and Punk kicks him in the stomach directly before wrapping a chair around Orton’s neck and sending him into the ring post yet again. The referee counts, but Orton is up at 9 yet again. Punk looks upset as he begins to unload on Orton with a series of rights before taking him over to the announcer’s table and throwing Randy on top. Punk gets on the table, and tries for the G2S, but Orton is able to get out of it and connect with the RKO, but the table doesn’t break.
Punk is able to make it to his feet, using the table for support, at a count of 8 before falling back down. Another count begins, and Orton lays in wait for Punk, trying for the punt. Punk is able to avoid the punt, and he gets Orton on his shoulders dropping him down face first into the ring steps. Orton gets up at 9 again, and he’s sent right into the ring by Punk, who slowly makes his way up the ring steps, kendo stick in hand. Punk begins the climb to the top turnbuckle, and he almost makes it before Orton whacks him with a kendo stick.
The finish:
Punk lays on the turnbuckle and Orton whips him repeatedly with the stick before picking Punk up to deliver a European uppercut that sits Punk up on the turnbuckle. Orton goes up to the second rope and he hits an RKO from the top! The referee begins the count, and it starts off being on both men, but Orton stands up at 9, and Punk is still laid out. This one is over.
Winner by KO: Randy Orton
Orton poses for the crowd, to a big pop, while we get replays of the highlights of the match.
Jerry Lawler is shown walking to the back to prepare for his match. It’s worth noting that the Cole Mine is set up, so hopefully the WWE isn’t showing their hand with Cole’s match. Matthews and Booker run down the results of the draft, before talking about Sheamus’ attack on Kofi Kingston this past Friday on Smackdown.
Sheamus is shown backstage pacing. He tells Teddy Long he doesn’t like it one bit. Long says he’s giving the WWE Universe a bonus match, and tonight Sheamus will be defending his title against Kofi in a table’s match. Sheamus says he’s upset because he’s the US Champion and he’s fighting someone that wasn’t born in the US. Sheamus wants to see Kofi’s birth certificate. Long says not to worry about it because after tonight, he may not even be the US Champion.
Morrison is shown backstage briefly, warming up and doing some small parkour type stuff.
Tables Match for the WWE United States Championship
- Sheamus (c) vs. Kofi Kingston
Kofi is introduced first for his match and he makes his way out to a very nice pop from the crowd. Sheamus is out next, and the crowd seems fairly apathetic.
The start:
The bell rings, and we’re ready to start. Sheamus tries to get the jump with a couple of clubbing blows, but Kofi uses his speed to catch Sheamus off guard. This goes back and forth for a bit before Kofi takes Sheamus down and mounts him with a series of punches. Kofi goes to the outside and goes under the ring for a table, but Sheamus comes right out and slams him into the ringside barricade before sliding the table back under the ring. Sheamus goes to the other side of the ring and grabs a different table, but he’s cut off by Kofi who comes up with a huge kick to the side of the head.
Mid-match notes:
Kofi gets the table Sheamus brought out and sets it up between the ring and announce table. Kofi slams Sheamus’ head into the table before laying him across. Kofi goes up to the ring apron, but Sheamus rolls off the table before Kingston leaps. Kofi follows Sheamus, but ends up being thrown into the barricade yet again.
Sheamus grabs another table, and sets this one up on the floor on the entrance ramp side. Sheamus tries for the razor’s edge through the table, but Kingston fights out of it. Kingston goes into the ring, and when Sheamus tries to follow, Kofi almost sends him through the table, but Sheamus is able to catapult himself over the top rope and into Kofi to avoid going through the table. Sheamus goes out of the ring for another table, but when he tries to bring it in, Kofi stops him. Sheamus snaps Kofi’s arm over the top rope before going back out, grabbing the table, and bringing it into the ring by slamming it directly into Kofi’s stomach. Sheamus comes into the ring and picks up the table a couple of times before slamming it down on top of a prone Kingston.
Sheamus props the table up in the corner, slamming Kofi into the table head first. Sheamus picks Kingston up over his shoulder and he almost drives Kingston into the table, but Kofi rolls over, and rolls up Sheamus, leaping up and coming down across the Irish man with a big double stomp. Kingston sets Sheamus up on the table in the corner and comes in running but Sheamus moves. Kofi leaps up and straddles the table in the corner. Sheamuse goes for another razor’s edge but Kofi gets out again. Kofi goes to the ring apron and tries to suplex Sheamus to the outside into the table, but Sheamus fights it off and comes up with the bicycle kick. Kofi avoids going through the table by leaping over it and to the arena floor.
Sheamus brings Kingston back into the ring where he immediately sets up the table. Sheamus puts Kofi on the top turnbuckle, and he tries to shoulder Kofi on the top turnbuckle, but Kofi fights out of it and knocks Sheamus to the mat. Sheamus comes right back with a big clubbing blow that knocks Kingston to the mat.
The finish:
Sheamus goes to the apron and tries to suplex Kofi to the outside through the table, but Kofi fights it off and comes up with the trouble in paradise, knocking Sheamus to the apron, and then the floor. Kofi goes to the top, and hits a boom drop on top of Sheamus who’s lying over the table. Both men go through, and this one is over.
Winner & NEW WWE US Champion: Kofi Kingston
Todd Grisham is shown backstage with R-Truth. Truth is pretty upset about losing his spot in the main event tonight. He says not only is he not in the main event, he’s not on the whole show. Truth says no one knows what a nose knows. Truth says he smells a conspiracy. Truth says conspiracies are bad, as bad as John Morrison’s breath. Truth says Miz and Cena don’t want him in this match, and neither does someone else. Truth says Morrison stole Truth’s opportunity to live his dream, and if there’s one thing Truth can’t stand, it’s a thief.
Tag Team Country Whipping Match
- Michael Cole & Jack Swagger vs. Jerry Lawler & Jim Ross
Swagger and Michael Cole are the first two men out to the ring, and Cole has completely wrapped himself in bubble wrap. It’s surprising how little the crowd is reacting for Cole, considering this match probably has the most build out of any on the entire card.
Cole has a mic in hand, and now the crowd’s beginning to boo. Cole asks for the crowd’s attention. He says everyone has been asking if he’s scared of this match against JR and Lawler. Cole explains that he’s an award winning journalist. Cole says he covered Waco, he spent nine months in Yugoslavia, covering the war. He says he’s seen atrocities that would make everyone shake, so everyone is mistaken to think he’s afraid. And when he and Jack Swagger beat JR and Lawler like a couple of government mules, they can stay in Florida, because like the crowd, they’re old, useless, incontinent retirees. Cole and Swagger hug as JR’s music hits.
JR gets a good reaction as he makes his way out, and as good as it is to see him on WWE PPV again, I wish it was in an announcing capacity so bad. Lawler is the next out to the entrance ramp, and he and JR walk down to the ring.
The start:
The bell rings, and not surprisingly Swagger and Lawler will be kicking things off. Swagger and Lawler both have their own straps, as do JR and Cole. Swagger backs into the corner, and JR whips him. Swagger turns around, and Lawler begins whipping Swagger repeatedly. Swagger tags out to Cole, who makes his way in, and is whipped by by Lawler and Ross, laughing it off the entire time. Cole gloats, saying he’s smarter than Lawler, so Lawler clocks him with a big right and rips off the bubble wrap. Cole tags out to Swagger, who comes into the ring and shoulder blocks Lawler in the gut, in the corner.
Mid-match notes:
Swagger whips Lawler a couple of times before using his whip to secure Lawler to the middle rope. Swagger begins stomping at Lawler’s ankle, before whipping at it.
Cole tags in to get in a couple of licks before taunting JR and tagging right back out. Swagger unties Lawler from the ropes so that he can send him across the ring hard. Swagger runs across the ring and goes for the Vader bomb, but King moves and Swagger hits the mat. King takes it to Swagger in the corner with a series of rights, but he’s stopped when Cole whips him from behind. King turns his attention to Cole, until Swagger comes up from behind with a chop block. Swagger locks in the ankle lock, and keeps it on until JR whips him from behind. Swagger turns his attention to JR, and this allows Lawler to come up with a big right to take Swagger down.
JR whips Swagger a couple of times before locking in the ankle lock on Swagger! Swagger is able to tag out to Cole in a desperation move, and Cole doesn’t want to come in. JR brings Cole into the ring the hard way, dragging him through the ropes before slamming him head first into the turnbuckle repeatedly. JR is strutting around the ring and the crowd is loving it. JR knocks Cole down with a big shoulder block before JR commences with the whipping. JR locks in the ankle lock, but Swagger breaks it up, so JR retaliates with a low blow to Swagger.
The finish:
JR begins to whip Swagger, but he’s rolled up by Cole who steals a three count.
Winners: Michael Cole & Jack Swagger
Cole and Swagger retreat up the ramp while celebrating. King and JR look upset in the ring as they watch the heels gloat.
Todd Grisham is backstage with John Cena. Cena says it’s been since June 20th 2010 since he was the WWE Champion, and in that time he’s been through a lot which includes just about everything but becoming the Champion. He says tonight they’ll be no interference, short cuts, or excuses, and after ten long months, the Champ is here.
Falls Count Anywhere Match
- Cody Rhodes vs. Rey Mysterio
We get a video package that highlights the events between these two men that have led to this match. Rhodes is the first man out to the ring, and he doesn’t get much of a reaction. I don’t know if this crowd is dead, or if they just aren’t coming through on TV, but outside of a couple of instances this crowd seems like they’ve been sitting on their hands.
Rhodes has a mic and he says in fitting with the name of this PPV, he’s going to ask the crowd to take the paper bags that his assistant is handing out, and place them over their head’s because they are extremely ugly.
Mysterio is out next, and although he gets a better reaction than others, it still seems fairly subdued.
The start:
The bell rings, and Rhodes strikes quickly, beating on Rey in the corner. When he charges Mysterio however, he’s caught with a boot. Rhodes tries to come right back, but he eats a hurricarana to the outside. Mysterio follows with a baseball slide into a hurricarana.
Mid-match notes:
Mysterio follows Rhodes, but he’s met with a big dropkick. Rhodes takes it to Mysterio with a couple of big right hands before he takes Mysterio up the ramp. Rhodes tries to slam Mysterio head first into the stage screens, but Mysterio reverses and sends Cody in head first. Cody falls to the floor, and Mysterio leaps off the stage with a big seated senton, connecting on Rhodes which is good for a two count. Mysterio and Rhodes fight to the outside where Rhodes crotches Mysterio on a barricade before clotheslining him off, which is good for a two count.
Mysterio is able to come back with a big kick to Rhodes head, and they begin to fight up the stairs in the middle of a sea of fans. Rhodes sends Mysterio through one of the hand rails, locking in a Boston crab while Mysterio is locked in the rail. Rhodes uses his mask to head butt Mysterio and the two continues to fight up the stairs, making their way to the top. Rhodes slams Mysterio’s hand down on the rail, and the two trade blows. Rhodes and Mysterio fight out into a hallway and out toward the concourse. Mysterio blocks a punch and rams Cody right into a couple of trash cans. Mysterio picks up a trash can lid (plastic) and smashes it across Rhodes’ back, going for a pin a getting a two count.
Rhodes uses one of the concession stands to leap off of and connect with a kick to Mysterio’s head. Rhodes launches Mysterio up and Mysterio lands on the concession counter before leaping back off onto Rhodes with a cross body that’s good for another near fall. Rhodes and Mysterio fight back out to the stair case, and Rhodes seems to be doing everything he can to get away from Mysterio. Mysterio climbs up on one of the barricades, but Rhodes walks away and Mysterio abandons his plans. Mysterio charges Rhodes, but Rhodes ends up hip tossing him over the barricade and back to the ringside area. Cody catches a charging Rey, and slams him head first into the steel ring steps, but it’s still only enough for two.
Cody tosses Rey into the ring, but when he follows, Rey comes back with a springboard cross body. Rhodes backbody drops Mysterio to the apron where he lands on his feet, and Mysterio comes off the top rope, taking Rhodes down for another two count. Mysterio gets Rhodes into the corner, exposes his knee brace and tries for the 619, but Rhodes avoids it, as well as avoiding a springboard leg drop. Rhodes gets Mysterio hung up on the top rope, kicking him square in the chest before slamming him down with an Alabama slammer which is good for another two count. Rhodes stomps on Mysterio repeatedly in the corner.
The finish:
Rhodes places Mysterio on the top turnbuckle, following him up and catching him with a couple of rights to the face. Mysterio is able to fight Rhodes off, and when Rhodes comes back in to attack, Mysterio sprays mist into Rhodes’ face. Mysterio hits the 619 on a standing Rhodes, and follows up with a springboard cross body, pinning Rhodes in the middle of the ring, and getting the three count.
Winner: Rey Mysterio
A big group of Diva’s are shown talking to each other in the back, falling silent when Layla walks in. Layla says she knows they don’t like her, but this might be her last night. She wants to apologize to everyone if she’s ever done anything. Beth Phoenix says she’s right about them not liking her, but Kelly Kelly says they like McCool a whole lot less. Layla walks away and the Diva’s go right back to their conversations. Cole is shown setting up in his Cole Mine, and WWE did indeed show their hand on that one.
No Count-Out, No Disqualification Loser Leaves WWE Match
- Michelle McCool vs. Layla
McCool is the first woman out to the ring, and she makes her way out fairly quickly to very little reaction. The music continues to play, and Layla makes her way out next, taking off her gear on the way to the ring.
The start:
McCool attacks Layla before the bell with a big kick that sends her to the outside. McCool sends her back into the ring and hits Layla with a big kick to the face, but a pin attempt only results in a two count. McCool picks Layla up, but Layla takes her right back down and mounts her with a series of punches.
Mid-match notes:
Layla goes to the outside, and pulls McCool out, slamming her head first into the announcer’s table. Layla charges McCool, but McCool moves and Layla flies into the announcer’s table. McCool lays into Layla with a big kick before sending her back into the ring. McCool connects with a big European uppercut, but misses a clothesline and Layla connects with a big kick that’s good for a near fall.
McCool begs off but Layla won’t have any of it. McCool suplexes Layla, but Layla goes to the outside. McCool tries for a big boot, but ends up hung up on the barricade. Layla stands on the barricade and brings McCool to her feet, but McCool tosses her off the barricade and rolls Layla into the ring. McCool taunts Layla, but Layla slaps her before hitting an interesting floatover stunner from the top turnbuckle, but she still can’t keep McCool down. Layla is screaming and looks close to tears. Layla walks right into a big boot from McCool, but she still kicks out at two. McCool goes for the faith breaker, but Layla fights it off and hits a beautiful neckbreaker, but McCool gets her foot on the ropes to avoid a pin.
The finish:
McCool picks Layla up by her hair, but Layla turns it into a roll up. McCool counters that into an (almost) faith breaker, but when she goes for the cover, Layla counters into a crucifix pin, and she’s able to score the three count.
Winner: Layla (Michelle McCool is forced to leave WWE.)
Both McCool and Layla are crying as Layla slides out of the ring and makes her way to the back. McCool is bawling in the ring as the crowd sings the Goodbye song. Strange music hits, and Kharma makes her WWE debut!
Kharma makes her way out to the ring, and she’s got some new ring gear for her big debut. She’s got a steely look on her face as she slowly makes her way to the ring. Kharma makes her way up to the ring apron and McCool begins to beg. Kharma finally makes her way into a WWE ring for the first time. McCool tries to escape, but Kharma grabs her, and plants her with whatever the WWE is going to call the implant buster. Kharma laughs maniacally before stopping abruptly. The Diva’s locker room is shown looking on in stunned silence.
Ricardo Rodriguez is shown backstage, practicing announcing Del Rio as the new World Heavyweight Champion, but Del Rio makes him say it again as he’s not quite satisfied.
Ladder Match for the World Heavyweight Championship
Alberto Del Rio vs. Christian
We get a video package detailing Edge’s retirement with the World Heavyweight Championship, and the race to find a new champion for Smackdown.
The title is shown handing above the ring, and ladders are set up around the ring, and all over the entrance ramp. Tony Chimmel announces Del Rio’s personal ring announcer, who then in turn announces Del Rio, who makes his way out in a beautiful Maserati. There must be at least a dozen ladders around the ringside area and up and down the ramp, possibly more.
Christian is the next man out to the ring, and he gets on of the strongest reactions I’ve heard throughout the night.
The start:
Christian comes out first with a couple of blows to Del Rio’s head, and Del Rio responds with a big kick. Christian puts Del Rio down with a big shoulderblock, but Del Rio is quick to come right back and he slams Christian down to the mat. When Del Rio attempts to go to the outside Christian stops him, and chokes him on the top ring rope before sending him across the ring and back body dropping him.
Mid-match notes:
Christian goes to the middle rope and launches himself off directly into Del Rio. Christian goes to the outside and grabs a ladder, but Del Rio stops him, slamming him into the ring post and kicking at his head instead. Del Rio rolls Christian under the ring apron.
Del Rio grabs a ladder, but Christian comes out of the other side of the ring, and through the ring, hitting Del Rio (and the ladder) with a big baseball slide. Christian brings the ladder back into the ring and sets it up right under the belt. Christian begins climbing the ladder but Del Rio pulls Christian’s foot off of the rungs and Christian crashes down into the mat. Del Rio begins the climb himself, but Christian tips the ladder over. Del Rio sees it comes, lands on his feet and comes up with a big kick to Christian’s head. Del Rio stomps and chokes Christian with his boot.
Christian is able to come back with a low kick before back body dropping Del Rio to the outside. Christian grabs the ladder, but Del Rio grabs his feet from the outside of the ring and causes Christian to crash face first into the ladder. Del Rio pull Christian to the outside, slamming him head first into the ring steps before propping a ladder up between the announcer’s table and the ring apron. Del Rio tries to suplex Christian into the ladder but Christian fights it off. Christian tries to slingshot Del Rio into the ladder but Del Rio avoids it. Del Rio sends Christian speeding toward the ladder, but Christian ducks. Christian hangs Del Rio up on the ladder and goes to the top rope, but Del Rio knocks him off. Christian is able to land on a ladder on the outside and jumps off with a cross body, taking Del Rio out.
Christian make his way back into the ring and sets up another ladder, but Del Rio is able to stop him as he makes his climb. Del Rio slams Christian head first into the ladder before propping it up in the corner and kicking away at Christian’s head. Del Rio brings Christian to his feet and Christian begins fighting back. Christian tries to slam Del Rio into the ladder, but Del Rio counters. Del Rio almost locks in the arm bar, but Christian counters into the killswitch. Del Rio avoids it, but when he charges Christian he ends up being hot shotted directly into the ladder. Del Rio rolls to the apron, and when he stands Christian is there to greet him with a ladder to the face.
Christian sets the ladder up and begins the climb again, but Del Rio comes in the ring with another ladder and throws it up against Christian’s back. Del Rio brings a step ladder into the ring, and uses it to give Christian a lung blower off the ladder. Del Rio takes it to Christian with a series of punches before Del Rio turns his attention to Christian’s arm. Christian tries to fight back, but Del Rio slams Christian’s arm into the ladder. Del Rio sets up another ladder in the corner, and slams Christian into it hard, but when he charges with the step ladder, Christian ducks and Del Rio runs face first into the ladder. Christian sets up said ladder in the ring, but he’s not quite under the title.
Christian makes his way up the ladder, but Del Rio is there to follow. Del Rio gets Christian in powerbomb position, but Christian counters into a hurricarana that sends Del Rio to the apron. Del Rio tries to suplex Christian to the outside through the ladder set up between the ring and the announcer’s table, but Christian counters, instead hitting a backdrop that sends Del Rio into yet another ladder. Christian goes up to the top turnbuckle with a ladder in his hands, but Del Rio comes up with a big kick and Christian falls from the turnbuckle down on top of the ladder. Del Rio grabs the ladder and begins the climb up toward the title.
Christian is able to tip the ladder over, but Del Rio comes right back with a huge kick and he pounds on Christian until Christian rolls to the outside. Ricardo attempts to help by handing Del Rio a chair, but when he tries to use it on Christian, Christian reverses and sends Del Rio face first into the ring post. Christian goes back into the ring, and Del Rio does as well, but Christian stalks Del Rio, delivering a spear (to a huge pop from the crowd), before turning right back to the ladder.
Christian sets up the ladder and begins the climb, but Del Rio goes through the middle of the ladder and pulls Christian through the rungs, trapping him. Christian is able to fall through into the middle of the ladder and tip it over, sending Del Rio into the corner, before Del Rio can reach the title. Christian picks up the step ladder, but Del Rio dropkicks it into his face. Del Rio sends Christian to the outside on top of the set up ladder, and he climbs to the top turnbuckle. Del Rio comes off with what looks like a senton, with a nasty spill when Christian moves, and the ladder fails to break, instead sliding out of position and to the floor, almost on top of himself. Christian sets up the ladder, and climbs to the title, grabbing it, but Brodus Clay comes in out of nowhere, takes the ladder out from under Christian and pulls Christian down off of the title. Christian fights Clay off by slamming him into the ladder and hitting him with the step ladder, but it allows Del Rio to recover and hit Christian with a big kick before locking in the arm bar through the rungs of the step ladder.
The finish:
Del Rio looks up to the title and he smiles before setting up the ladder underneath the belt. The crowd is chanting for Edge. Del Rio is close to the title, reaching for it. Edge pulls into the arena on a jeep and uses it to distract Del Rio, allowing Christian to knock Del Rio off of the ladder and into Ricardo and Brodus Clay in yet another really nasty spill. Christian sets up the ladder and begins climbing with Edge cheering him on the whole time. Christian reaches up and grabs the title, bringing it down and ending the match.
Winner & NEW World Heavyweight Champion: Christian
Christian sits on top of the ladder with the title, celebrating while the crowd is going nuts. Christian is bleeding from the forehead, and Edge is looking on happily. Christian makes his way down the ladder and begins celebrating with his good friend Edge. Christian is visibly emotional, but in a good way. Christian has welts all over his body, but he couldn’t look happier as the crowd cheers the new World Champion on.
Miz is shown backstage with Alex Riley standing alongside him. Riley is complaining about Miz’s lot in the match, saying that he only has a 33% chance of winning. Riley says if Miz loses he’s guaranteed a rematch, but then Riley stops himself, saying Miz will win because he’s the Miz, and he’s… but he’s cut off by the Miz who tells him never to do that again.
Lumberjack Match for the WWE Tag Team Championship
- Big Show & Kane (c) vs. Wade Barrett & Ezekiel Jackson
The Lumberjacks are already standing ringside as the Corre make their way to the ring to very little reaction. Big Show and Kane are out next, and this little unscheduled buffer match is ready to begin.
The start:
Barrett and Show look to start things off for their respective teams. The bell rings and Show takes Barrett into the corner where he immediately lays in with a huge chop, then another. Show tags ou to Kane, who comes in and hits a low single leg dropkick to Barrett’s face that’s good for a two count.
Mid-match notes:
Barrett rolls to the outside and he’s quickly rolled right back into the ring. Kane takes Barrett into the corner with a big clothesline before hitting a side slam. Kane calls for the chokeslam, but Barrett is able to surprise Kane with a kick before sending him to the outside where he’s swarmed by the heels. Kane makes it back into the ring, and Show goes to the outside, breaking things up and rolling a couple of heels into the ring for Kane to take care of. This allows Jackson to tag in and get the upper hand on Kane though with a series of explosive offense.
Barrett tags in, only to quickly tag right back out to Jackson, who tries to hit a big clothesline, but misses. Another attempt, and this time both Jackson and Kane score with clotheslines and both are down. Both men make the tag and Show and Barrett come in. Show splashes Barrett in the corner, but when he runs the ropes, Jackson low bridges him and he falls to the outside where he’s swarmed again.
The finish:
Show is thrown into the ring, and Jackson picks him up with a very impressive slam, but Barrett tags himself in. Barrett doesn’t last long, as he’s quickly put down with a big chokeslam from Show which is good for a three count.
Winners and STILL WWE Tag Team Champions: Kane & Big Show
Following the match, Jackson looks unhappy with Barrett, and a brawl breaks out in the ringside area between all the lumberjacks. Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel try to sneak attack Show and Kane, but they’re met with dual chokeslams for their trouble.
Triple Threat Steel Cage Match for the WWE Championship
- The Miz vs. John Cena vs. John Morrison
The steel cage is shown lowering to the ring, along with ominous music and lights. Justin Roberts gives us a quick run down of the rules before John Morrison’s music hits, and he makes his way out to the ring to a pretty OK reaction.
Morrison checks out the cage, climbing to the top and straddling it to test it’s stability before posing, and climbing back down.
Cena is the next man out to the ring, and predictably, he comes out to one of the biggest pops of the night, next to Christian winning the World Heavyweight Championship.
The Champion himself, The Miz, is the last man to make his way out to the ring, and I don’t think I’m imagining some of the smaller pops I’m hearing.
The start:
The cage door is closed, the bell rings, and this one begins. The Miz quickly looks to escape, but he’s pulled down by Cena and Morrison, who take turns beating on the Champion before double teaming him with a hot shot. Morrison turns to Cena and tries to take him out with a quick flurry of offense, but he turns right around into a big clothesline from Miz. Miz slams Cena head first into the cage wall before doing the same to Morrison.
Mid-match notes:
Miz sends Cena, then Morrison into the cage walls once more. Miz goes to the well once too often, as when he tries to send Cena in again, Cena counters, hitting him with a quick series of blows before hitting a fisherman’s suplex. Morrison is up to take it to Cena, but he notices Miz trying to climb out, and he leaps to the top rope to fight with him. Miz is able to land on his feet on the mat, and yank Morrison off, but he quickly ends up in AA position. Miz grabs the cage wall and climbs up to the top rope, but Cena is quick to follow, and he and Miz fight it out for a bit, before Cena bull dogs Miz from the top turnbuckle to the mat.
Cena connects with a couple of shoulderblocks to Morrison, and a big belly to back suplex before Cena connects with the five knuckle shuffle. Miz is able to hit Cena with the SCF, but when he turns around Morrison is almost halfway out of the cage. Miz is able to pull Morrison back into the ring, and he tries to go out himself. Miz and Morrison end up straddling the cage, trading right hands, and Miz tries to make a break for it. Morrison grabs Miz around the head, and Cena comes up after him. Morrison and Cena suplex Miz from the top rope to the middle of the ring and Miz lands in a very scary position, completely folding in half. Morrison begins trying to escape the cage, but Cena is up and able to stop him.
Miz is able to make it back to his feet, but Morrison hits a springboard kick to take him out, before taking Cena out with some very innovative offense that’s good for a two count. Morrison begins trying to climb, but Miz pulls him down in powerbomb position, powerbombing him into the cage wall (thank God he’s walking after that scary bump). Miz kicks Morrison’s face while he’s up against the cage wall. Cena is able to lock in the STF, but Miz begins crawling toward the outside. Miz is almost able to hit the floor, but Cena pulls him back in. Cena tries, but Miz pulls him back in. Back in the ring, Cena hits a quick gutwrench powerbomb on Miz. Morrison tries to leap to the top and get out of the cage, but he and Cena end up fighting straddling the cage. Miz tries to sneak out of the door, but Morrison uses hit legs to slam the door into Miz’s face. Cena beats on Morrison and Morrison ends up crotches on the cae door. Miz pulls Morrison back into the ring and Cena hits a giant monkey flip that’s good for two.
Miz catches Cena from behind, but he’s still not able to keep him down for three. Miz hits Cena with a big kick to the face, then another. Miz grates Cena’s face against the cage, and Morrison begins to try and escape from the other side. Miz grabs on to the back of Morrison’s trunks, and he will not let him go to the outside. Miz and Morrison end up straddling the cage again, trading punches, and Miz tries to climbs out. Morrison grabs Miz in a headlock, forcing him back into the ring, and when he comes in, Morrison slams Miz face first into the cage, causing him to fall to the mat. Cena pops up to prevent Morrison from escaping, but Morrison knocks him away before hitting a modified starship pain from the top of the cage to both Cena and Miz.
Morrison crawls toward the cage door, but when he almost makes his way out, R-Truth comes down to the ring and knees Morrison’s head, slamming it against the ring steps. Truth forces Morrison back into the ring, and he follows, beating Morrison down with punches and kicks before mounting him in the corner and wailing away on Morrison. Truth then turns to Cena, connecting with a big axe kick. Truth has a crazed look on his face.
Truth picks Morrison up, and delivers what looks to be a modified pay dirt. Truth climbs up to the top rope, and to the outside over the top of the cage. Truth’s feet hit the floor, and he makes his way to the back, seething the whole time. All three men are down, but Miz is the first to begin stirring. Miz begins climbing in the corner, making his way up over the top of the cage, but Cena grabs Miz’s arms, refusing to let him fall to the floor. Cena grabs Miz in a headlock, and he and Miz end up straddling the cage trading punches. The crowd actually seems more behind Miz than Cena. Cena knocks Miz into the ring, still standing on the ropes, and when Cena tries to go to the outside, Miz grags him back in by his leg. Miz tries for the SCF from the top rope, but Cena fights it off.
The finish:
Cena shoulders Miz, and connects with the AA from the top rope, taking Miz down for the three count.
Winner & NEW WWE Champion: John Cena
Cena’s tenth reign as a World Champion begins as he’s handed the belt and immediately begins celebrating. He makes sure to let the camera know that the Champ is here. Cena climbs the side of the cage to continue his celebration. Cena straddles the cage and poses for the fans with his title held high above his head. Cena makes his way down the cage back into the ring, and holds the belt up again, to the cheers of the fans. The PPV ends with Cena, smiling and celebrating, and all is normal in the WWE Universe.

D-Von Dudley is in the ring with Anarchia. D-Von is thrown into the turnbuckle and comes right back with a couple of big shoulder blocks. D-Von goes for the pin but he only gets two. Another big shoulder block, and it’s still only good for another two count. D-Von scores with a big spinebuster, gets the three count, and this one is in the books.
Winner: D-Von
Following the match, D-Von fights with Anarchia outside of the cage and slams a water bottle into his head before choking him with a cable. D-Von suplexes Anarchia on the ramp, and poses for the crowd. The crowd chants for one more, and D-Von is happy to oblige with another suplex on the ramp. D-Von poses again for the crowd. Tenay shills the PPV, urging the crowd to order, and we go back into the normal pre-show promo routine.
We get a video package hyping the fact that every match tonight will be taking place inside of a steel cage. We also get a look at a couple of the big feuds heading into tonight. No pyro, but Mike Tenay welcomes us to the PPV and immediately begins hyping the World title match, Jarrett/Angle, and The Lethal Lockdown match. With a stacked schedule for the night, Chris Sabin’s music hits, and we begin the Xscape match.
Lockdown Cage Match: X Division Xscape Match
- Amazing Red vs. Brian Kendrick vs. Chris Sabin vs. Jay Lethal vs. Jeremy Buck vs. Max Buck vs. Robbie E vs. Suicide
Robbie E. is out next, followed by Jeremy Buck, who is out by himself. His music continues to play though, and Max Buck is the fourth man out to the ring. I’ll go ahead and say here, bear with me as this will be difficult to call. Amazing Red is the fifth man out to the ring, and he’s already had a couple of matches in Chikara this weekend, so let’s see how he performs here. Jay Lethal is out next and the ring is filling up fast.
The start:
Bryan Kendick is out next in a weird white robe, and he immediately sits down in the corner and begins meditating. Suicide is the last man to the ring and we’re ready to go.
The door closes and things go easily into Robbie E. and Suicide. Suicide beats on Robbie in the corner and everone else is out on the apron. Suicide hits a dropkick that sends Robbie into the corner, then catches Max Buck when he tries to interfere. Buck tags himself in and takes Suicide out with a back elbow along with Robbie E. Buck hits a dropkick and Jeremy tags himself in, but Max tags out to Lethal.
Mid-match notes:
Lethal falls to a hurricarana from Buck, but Lethal hits a tilt a whirl back breaker and the Lethal combination and Max and Suicide both tag in. Suicide takes Buck out with an elbow across the chest and takes him to the corner where Robbie tags in. Robbie takes out Suicide with sole food and pins Suicide for the three count.
Suicide has been eliminated.
Lethal is in, and so is Sabin, and they pepper Robbie with right hands before slamming him head first into the cage. Sabin tries to catch Lethal with a roll up but Lethal kicks out, and after a flurry Lethal puts Sabin down with a single leg drop kick. Red tags in and flies off the top rope with a missile dropkick to Sabin. He stands up and is chopped by Lethal, but when Lethal goes for a handspring, Red catches Lethal with a kick to the face. Red hits the Code Red and pins Lethal for three.
Jay Lethal is eliminated.
Sabin comes in but Red catches him in the corner with a dropkick to the back of the head. Sabin tosses Red up but he lands on the top rope and steadies himself. Red leaps off and Sabin puts him down with a suplex variation and a giant lariat to put Red down for three.
Amazing Red is eliminated.
Max Buck is in and he takes it to Sabin for a bit before Sabin hangs him up in a tree of woe and hits him with a hang time drop kick. Sabin goes for the pin but Buck kicks out. Max is able to hit an awesome stunner from the top rope and he pins Sabin for three.
Chris Sabin is eliminated.
Kendrick jumps in and tries to score a quick roll up but Max kicks out and Robbie tags in, taking Kendrick out. Kendrick comes right back with a dropkick and splashes Robbie into the cage wall. Max goes for a moonsault but Kendrick gets his knees up. Jeremy and Max finally square off and Jeremy is taking it to Max. Max tries to escape the cage but he’s cut off by Jeremy who pounds on his head and takes him from side to side in the cage slamming his head into the walls before hitting a big spinning kick to the head.
Jeremy mounts Max and hits him with punches, but when he goes back to his brother, he ends up in a small package and he’s out.
Jeremy Buck is eliminated.
Robbie E. is in and he’s stomping away on Kendrick. Robbie and Max teal up and each pick up Kendrick on a shoulder before launching him face first into the cage. Kendrick is able to fight back, slamming both into the cage wall before kicking both Robbie and Max. Kendrick is on fire, reversing a backdrop and hitting a big kick to the face. Thrust kick to Robbie E. and Robbie is out.
Robbie E. is eliminated.
The finish:
Kendrick goes right to climb the cage but Max pulls him down and tries to beat him down immediately. This is the escape portion of the match. Max powerbombs Kendrick into the corner and slams his face into the cage. Max goes to climb the cage but Kendrick is still fighting and he climbs to the top rope and slams Buck’s face into the cage repeatedly until he falls to the mat. Max pushes Hebner into the cage and Kendrick falls to the mat. Max climbs the cage quickly, and he’s over, winning the match.
Winner and NEW #1 Contender to the X-Division Title: Max Buck
Tenay and Tax talk, but they’re interrupted by Eric Bischoff’s music. Bischoff walks out, and smiles, pointing at the crowd, and posing with his arms in the air. Brooke Hogan is shown dancing and cheering in the front row. Bischoff has a mic in his hand as he climbs into the ring. Bischoff thanks the people and says they know how much he loves them. He says that he loves that they came to their soiree this evening. Bischoff says tonight is a special night, that it’s one of the happiest nights he’s had in this industry in many years. Bischoff says people come to his and ask him what matters most to him in his career. Bischoff says he tries to explain when you’re in a position like he is, and you’ve rewritten the book on pro-wrestling that it’s hard to say what matters most, but he’s going to try and sum it up. Tonight is special because tonight Immortal is going to take care of the distraction that Fortune has become. He says Fortune made the mistake of getting involved in Immortal’s business, and that ends tonight. He says he’s also excited because he gets to be part of the vision of Hulk Hogan, his mentor, who taught him everything he knows about wrestling. He says tonight he helps Hogan gets the World Title off of Sting and back in Hogan’s control, and that’s why he’s happy, and that’s all that matters to Bischoff.
Christy Hemme is backstage with Crimson and Scott Steiner. Crimson says it’ll be an honor to step in the ring with Scott. Steiner says a lot of things that I’m not really able to transcribe for this website. He also says they’ll give Cincinnati what they want, and kick somebody’s butt.
Lockdown Cage Match: Four Way Tornado Tag Team Match
- Ink Inc. vs. Crimson & Scott Steiner vs. Orlando Jordan & Eric Young vs. Magnus & Douglas Williams
Ink Inc. is out first, followed by the British Invasion. This is going to be another hard to follow match, so bear with me please. Orlando Jordan and Eric Young come out, and EY is still wearing the old TNA Title, which Taz says ‘means nothing’. Steiner and Crimson are the final two men out to the ring.
The start:
The cage door closes, and we’re ready to kick things off. It’s not really tornado styles as everyone is out on the apron. EY and Neal are starting off and EY tries to escape the cage, but everyone tells him it’s not time yet. EY bounces on the top rope for a bit before dropping down and locking up with Neal. Neal hits a big shoulder block, and he and EY trade arm drags, then Japanese arm drages, then they stop for a hand shake. Moore tags in and he doesn’t look happy with NEal. He takes it right to EY with a big hurricarana before locking in an arm bar on EY. Williams tags in and he tries to suplex EY, but EY lands on his feet and tags out to Jordan. Jordan comes in but he’s immediately double teamed by the Brits who toss him into the corner. Jordan comes back, taking out both Brits before Neal tags himself in. Magnus takes Neal out with a giant clothesline.
Mid-match notes:
Another double team move from the British Invasion and another pin attempt, but Moore breaks it up. The crowd wants Steiner. Williams hits Neal with a running knee in the corner and Magnus hits a snap mare. The Brits catch Neal in the corner, but Neal is able to fight out and tag out to Crimson. Crimson hits Magnus with a series of knees to the face and a neckbreaker, but then both men hit clotheslines and both end up on their backs. Both men make the tag to their own partners and Steiner comes in, taking out both Brits. He drops and elbow on Magnus and does some pushups before hitting both Brits with back body drops, and belly to belly suplexes. Steiner catches EY coming off the top rope with another belly to belly. Steiner goes up top with Magnus and hits a belly to belly from the top. Steiner looks for another one, but Moore comes in and knocks Steiner off, and for some reason Steiner goes back to his corner.
The finish:
EY drops his trunks to reveal matching trunks with his partner Jordan. Things are breaking down quickly and everyone in in hitting their big moves. Steiner hits an exploder on Magnus and EY hits a missile dropkick on Steiner. EY points to the top of the cage and he climbs down. Shannon Moore hits the Moore-gasm, and pins Magnus, getting the three count, right as EY hits the floor.
Winners: Ink Inc.
EY looks confused out on the floor, saying that he won.
Hemme is backstage and Madison Rayne walks by with scissors. Hemme mentions that she hopes that James wins tonight. Rayne says she’ll retain and she’s going to take Mickie’s hair. Rayne plays with Tara’s hair, but, Tara doesn’t like it, and it looks like Rayne isn’t happy, as she says she’s tired of Tara and she doesn’t need her at ringside. Rayne storms off.
Lockdown Cage Match: Mickie’s Hair vs. Madison’s Title
- Madison Rayne (c) vs. Mickie James
Mickie James is the first woman out to the ring, and she’s got he shoulder taped up and is cradling it against her stomach as she skips her way to the ring. Rayne is out next, and I have to comment on the cool set, which features rising screens, but it’s a far cry from how awesome Mania’s set was. Rayne has barber clippers in hand, and a whole bag of barber tools.
The bell rings, and Mickie kicks Rayne in the gut before tossing her face first into the ring three times into three different cage walls. Mickie jumps up and hits a big DDT using her injured arm. She pins Rayne and gets the three count.
Winner and NEW TNA Knockouts Champion: Mickie James
Christy Hemme is backstage with Matt Morgan, she asks about his match with Hernandez tonight. Morgan says Hernandez has been a thorn in his side since he got back from Mexico. Morgan says tonight he’s getting back on track, and he’s doing that by going through Hernandez. He says tonight he’s going to punt Hernandez’s football head back to Mexico.
Lockdown Cage Match
- “The Pope” D’Angelo Dinero vs. Samoa Joe
After a video package, Dinero’s music hits, and The Pope himself makes his way down to the ring in a goofy looking robe. Joe is out next, and entrances are just flying by tonight. It’s good to see Joe back on TNA PPV.
The start:
The bell rings, and the crowd thinks Joe is going to kill Pope. Pope looks apprehensive to begin the match, and he tries to climb but Joe pulls him back down. Pope hits Joe with a cheap shot but Joe comes back with a series of jabs. Pope is able to return the favor with a body slam, but then he turns around into a big clothesline and another series of jabs that sits Pope down in the corner. Joe splashes Pope, then hits a giant kick to Pope’s head that puts him down again. Joe catches Pope with a big chop, and another. A third puts Pope down and he begins to beg off, but when Joe goes to attack, Pope throws Joe head first into the turnbuckle. Pope goes to work with a series of blows to Joe’s midsection, but Joe comes back with another chop. Pope goes to climb the cage again, but Joe climbs up and on the top rope, slams his head into the cage wall. Dinero crotches himself, and Joe hits a running kick to the chest to knock Dinero free. Joe face washes Dinero repeatedly in the corner.
Mid-match notes:
Pope is able to pull the ref into the way, distraction Joe, and this allows him to throw Joe head first into the cage wall. Pope rips away at Joe’s eyes and hits him with a couple of rights. Joe responds with a couple of rights of his own, then a couple of kicks, but Pope comes up with the 4 Up and that’s good for a two count. The camera angles are really weird tonight, trying to showcase the crowd. Pope locks in a rear chin lock, and the feed freezes for a second. When it comes back, Joe reverses only to be clotheslines straight down to the canvas. Pope hits Joe with a couple of back hands to the face, but when he charges, Joe hits Pope with a quick snap power slam.
Pope and Joe trade slaps in the middle of the ring, and Joe can’t be stopped, slapping repeatedly before hitting a Manhattan drop, big kick, and senton splash, but he still can’t put Pope down for three. Joe hits a big leg lariat from the middle rope, but can only get a two count. Joe sits Pope up on the top rope, then connects with a big muscle buster, but he’s too close to the ropes, and Pope gets his leg on the bottom rope, breaking the count.
The finish:
Pope goes right back to trying to climb the cage again, but Joe grabs Pope by the tights, and Pope’s full behind is exposed. Pope fights Joe off, sending him to the canvas, and pulling up his trunks. Pope hits a big elbow drop that’s good for a one count, then a lungblower that’s good for two. Pope pulls down his knee pads and goes for the DDE, but Joe catches him and slams him back first into the cage. Joe hits the muscle buster again, then locks in the rear naked choke in the middle of the ring. Pope taps out clean right in the middle of the ring.
Winner: Samoa Joe
Hernandez is backstage with his whole stable making a lot of noise. Hemme tries to ask a couple of questions, and Hernandez asks to be interviewed in Spanish. Hernandez and his group take turns speaking on the mic in Spanish before finishing with a ‘Viva Mexico’ chant.
Lockdown Cage Match
- Matt Morgan vs. Hernandez
Hernandez is the first man out to the ring, accompanied by the rest of Mexican America. Hernandez gets right into the ring, and wastes no time before posing. Morgan is out next to a good reaction from the crowd. Morgan slams the door behind himself.
The start:
The bell rings, and both men go right at it with a series of right hands. Morgan gets the better of the situation, and ends up delivering his rapid fire elbows in the corner before splashing Hernandez. Morgan hits a sidewalk slam, which is good for a two count. Morgan goes to climb the rope, and Anarchia grabs Morgan’s leg through one of the camera holes, allowing Hernandez to splash Morgan against the cage. Hernandez lays into Morgan with a series of right hands before grinding his face into the cage.
Mid-match notes:
Hernandez locks in a nerve hold, but it’s not long before Morgan fights out. Morgan hits a cross body, but Hernandez kicks out at one and hits a big clothesline before choking him blatantly in the middle of the ring. Hernandez slams Morgan face first into the cage wall, to the delight of his stable-mates. Morgan begins to fight back with a couple of rights, but Hernandez takes him right off of his feet with a giant shoulder block. Hernandez chokes Morgan with a towel, before stomping and choking him in the corner.
Hernandez hits Morgan with a shoulder to the gut in the corner with force, causing Morgan to fall to the mat. Hernandez stands over Morgan and taunts him, playing to the crowd. Morgan gets up to his feet and connects with a discus clothesline with Hernandez turns around. Morgan psychs himself up, connecting with a head butt, and a couple of big rights hands, and back to back clotheslines. Morgan launches Hernandez head first into the cage wall, then follows it up with another launching. Morgan picks Hernandez up and tosses him into the cage once more before hitting a back drop suplex, but he can’t keep Hernandez down for three.
The finish:
Hernandez hits a running head butt to the gut, but Morgan sidesteps another charging leap, and Hernandez connects with the cage wall. Mexican America begins climbing the cage from the outside, but Morgan knocks them off. Hernandez goes to the top and comes off at Morgan, but Morgan connects with the Carbon footprint and this one is over.
Winner: Matt Morgan
Following the match, Sarita and Rosita get into the ring and Sarita says that this is typical. They’re always being screwed over, and everyone saw it tonight. Sarita says why isn’t she the Knockouts Champion? It’s because they can’t stand the fact that Mexican America is better than them. She says they’ve plowed through every Knockout on the roster, and they’re going to do what they want, when they want to. Rosita speaks a bit in Spanish, and Sarita translates it, saying they’re not going anywhere. They’re interrupted by Velvet Sky who comes out, drop toe holds Rosita and tackles Sarita, pounding her face in before tossing her across the ring and kicking her to the outside. Velvet poses to a lot of love from the crowd.
Christy Hemme is backstage with Karen Angle. Karen says Jeff Jarrett is the ultra man, the ultra dad, and the ultra loves. She says Jeff has this covered and she had nothing to worry about.
Lockdown Cage Match: “Ultra Male Rules” 2 Out of 3 Falls
Fall 1 Pinfalls only, Fall 2 Submission match, Fall 3 Escape the cage
- Kurt Angle vs. Jeff Jarrett w/Karen Jarrett
Jeff Jarrett is the first man out to the ring, and he’s got Karen by his side. He gets a bit of a non-reaction from the crowd. Kurt Angle is out next and he gets a lot of love from the crowd. Karen Jarrett (sorry for calling her Angle earlier, it’s out of habit) is sent to the back before the match is even able to begin.
The start:
Both men are in the cage and the door is closed, and this one is set to begin. Jarrett climbs up on the ropes and tests the strength of the steel cage by shaking the walls. The bell rings, and we’re ready to go. Jarrett looks apprehensive. Angle locks in a head lock and takes Jarrett right down to the mat. Jarrett fights up and takes Angle to the corner, hitting him with a big right hand and following up with a couple more. Angle comes right back with a big suplex. Angle hits Jarrett with a big right, but Jarrett is able to take Angle off his feet and lock in the figure four. The first fall is supposed to be submision only, but the referee is counting pinfalls. Angle tries to turn the submission over, and when he does, Jarrett immediately grabs the ropes to force a break. Angle gets up to his feet and launches Jarrett with a t-bone suplex before locking in the ankle lock. Jarrett fights it off quickly.
Mid-match notes:
Jarrett is able to lock in the sleeper hold, taking Angle down to the mat and locking his legs around Angle’s midsection. Angle is able to fight back up to his feet, and he locks in the ankle lock in the middle of the ring, but Jarrett fights out quickly again. Angle charges Jarrett in the corner, but Jarrett moves and Angle hits the steel post with his shoulder. Jarrett kicks Angle in the shoulder and locks in an arm bar, but Angle is able to turn it around into the ankle lock in the middle of the ring with the leg grapevined. Jarrett taps.
Angle wins the first fall
At the beginning of the second fall, Jarrett launches Angle face first into the cage and connects with the stroke, very quickly. Jarrett goes for the pin but Angle is able to kick out at two. Jarrett goes to the top for a cross body, but Angle reverses into a pin, Jarrett kicks out. Jarrett connects with a right hand before choking Angle against the middle rope. Both men connect with clotheslines, and both are down.
Both men trade right hands in the middle of the ring, and Angle gets the upper hand with a flying forearm and big clothesline. Angle connects with a belly to belly suplex but can still only get a two couple. Jarrett catches Kurt with a knee and slams him into the cage wall, but Angle comes right back with a German suplex. He holds on and connects with a second, but when he goes for a third, Jarrett holds on to the ropes and low blows Angle, preventing it. Jarrett stands up and goes for the stroke again, but Angle launches him into the cage wall and follows up with the Angle slam. Angle pins Jarrett but he only gets two.
Angle sits Jarrett on the top rope and tries to follow, but Jarrett tosses him back. Angle tries to run up the ropes but loses his footing. After a stumble, Angle connects with a super belly to belly suplex but Jarrett still won’t stay down. Angle peppers Jarrett with right hands and connects with another big clothesline. Angle connects with an RKO (probably to get back at Orton for WM). Angle goes for another Angle slam, but Jarrett rolls through and rolls Angle up, holding the tights and getting the three.
Jarrett wins the second fall and we’re tied at one a piece
Jarrett ambushes Angle and slingshots him into the cage wall. Jarrett goes to the cage door and he’s able to unlock the chain holding the door closes. Angle is able to use the time to recover and he comes up with a big German suplex, then a second, third, fourth (Angle will not stop!), and fifth. Angle looks to exit the cage through the door, but he climbs back inside instead. Angle goes back out to the steps, but again decides it’s not done, and he closes the door behind him, chaining it back up, and putting the key in his trunks before flipping Jarrett off. Angle slams Jarrett head first into the cage repeatedly.
Jarrett is split open and Angle rakes Jarrett’s face against the cage wall. Jarrett bags off, and begins to climb up the cage to get away from Angle, but Angle catches him and punches him repeatedly. Angle goes to escape instead, and Jarrett goes for a top rope powerbomb that has a DISGUSTING ending, with Angle flipping completely over and coming down on top of his head. Jarrett goes up, and Angle leaps right up to his feet and up the ropes to take Jarrett down with a top rope Angle slam.
Angle goes for the door, but he locked it earlier. He goes to climb the cage instead and Immortal’s Gunner comes down to ringside and he’s got a steel chair to fend Angle off, preventing him from coming down. Angle goes to the corner of the cage and he stands up at the top. Angle launches himself off with a humungous moonsault that barely catches Jarrett. Scott Steiner is headed out to the ring and he chases off Gunner. Angle is somehow still not dead, and he’s found the keys to the door. Angle goes over and unlocks the padlock, opening the door. Karen runs down to ringside and sprays perfume into Angle’s eyes before he can exit the ring. Angle, blinded, clocks the referee. Karen tries to help Jarrett out of the ring, but Angle pulls him back into the ring with an ankle lock. Karen slides Jeff a guitar, and he uses it to blast Angle.
Jarrett takes time to gloat, but Angle will not die, and he tries to pull Jarrett back in with another ankle lock, but Karen swings the cage door closed on Angle’s head, and Kurt drops Jeff, letting him fall to the arena floor.
Jeff Jarrett wins two falls to one
We get a video package to highlight the events leading into this match, including both of the challengers whining about how they don’t get enough title opportunities.
Lockdown Cage Match: Three-way Match for the TNA Championship
- Sting (c) vs. Rob Van Dam vs. Mr. Anderson
Rob Van Dam is the first man out to the ring, and he gets a lot of love from this crowd. Mr. Anderson is the next competitor to the ring, to a big pop, and of course he stops at the top of the ramp to call down his mic. He asks if there are any a-holes in the building, and he gets a lot of cheers in response. He asks the question again and gets an even louder response this time around. He says he’s here, and then lets the crowd know he’s from Green Bay, WI. Then he lets the crowd know his name (twice) before letting go of the mic and making his way to the ring. The Champion is the last man to make his way to the ring, and he comes out with title in hand to a great response from the crowd. It’ll be interesting to see who plays the heel in this match
The start:
The bell rings and Anderson talks trash to both men, leading to both hitting him with a series of right hands. RVD slams Anderson’s head into the turnbuckle, then Sting down the same. RVD catches Anderson with a kick to the face, so Sting hits a Stinger splash and goes for the Deathlock, but RVD hits a back kick to prevent the submission. RVD sends Sting across the ring and buries his shoulder in Sting’s midsection before connecting with a big kick, a face buster, then a standing moonsault which is good for two. RVD goes into the ropes but Anderson pulls down the ropes and RVD goes in awkwardly. Sting is able to almost get Anderon into the deathlock again, and this time he stops RVD from interfering. Sting locks in the Scorpion Deathlock on both RVD and Anderson at the same time, and Tenay comments how he’s never seen it before (cough Natalya). Sting is forced to drop the hold.
Mid-match notes:
Anderson is able to take Sting down and he tries for a pin, but he’s only able to get two. He tries for his luck on RVD, but again gets two. Anderson hits clotheslines on Sting and RVD before hitting a back elbow on Sting and a neckbreaker on RVD. Anderson goes for the mic check, and he’s actually able to hit it on Sting and RVD at the same time. He goes for the pin on both but he can’t get a three count. He tries for another pin on both, but still can’t get three. All three men are slow to get back to their feet, and when they do Anderson pounds on RVD in the corner before sending him across the ring. Van Dam comes back with a springboard single leg dropkick and a five star frog splash on Anderson. String brakes up the cover, and Anderson catches RVD with a kick to the face. Sting is able to catch RVD with a death drop, while Anderson connects with a big clothesline.
The finish:
Hogan’s music hits and he makes his way down to the ring with a steel pipe in hand. He tries to hand it to Van Dam, and after a bit of waiting, he takes it from Hogan. Hogan urges him to use it to knock his opponents out, but RVD tosses the pipe away. Anderson picks up the pipe and whacks RVD, saying it wasn’t for Hogan, it was for himself. Sting hits Anderson with the Scorpion Death Drop, and he pins him, getting the three count.
Winner and STILL TNA World Champion: Sting
After the match, Sting calls out Hogan, asking him to get back into the ring, but Hogan points toward his watch, saying they’ll do it on his time.
Lockdown Cage Match: Lethal Lockdown Match
- Immortal (Ric Flair, Abyss, Bully Ray & Matt Hardy) vs. Fortune (James Storm, Kazarian & Robert Roode) & Christopher Daniels
Immortal make their way down to the ring first, and all four men, Abyss, Bully Ray, Matt Hardy, and Ric Flair come down to the ringside area for the match. Flair is dressed in a black wife beater, dress pants, and dress shoes. Just thought that was worth noting. Fortune and Daniels are out next, and they get a great reaction from the crowd.
The start:
Kaz looks to start things out for Fortune, and Hardy wants to go in, but Abyss is sent in by Flair instead. Kaz is on fire to start off, taking it right to Abyss, but Abyss shrugs him off. Kaz jumps off the middle rope, and Abyss almost catches him in a chokeslam, but Kaz is able to wriggle out of it, only to end up eating a series of right hands in the corner, before Abyss chokes him with his boot. Abyss takes Kaz over to the side of the cage and rubs his face into the cage wall while Immortal taunts Kaz. Abyss points toward the cage wall before shouldering Kaz. Kaz fights out of it, and avoids a splash by Abyss before going to the top rope and leaping off with a huge hurricarana.
Mid-match notes:
Kaz sandwiches Abyss in between the ropes and the cage wall with a dropkick before stomping away at him and choking him with his boot. The clock counts down, and Matt Hardy is the next man in the ring. Hardy tries for a side effect, but Kaz fights out of it and slams Hardy to the mat. Kaz hits a springboard leg drop.
Abyss and Hardy are able to come back when Abyss hits Kaz with a big right and Hardy locks in the ice pick submission. Abyss continues to stomp away at Kaz. Abyss picks up Kaz only for Hardy to tag him with a right and nail a side effect. Hardy holds Kaz up while Abyss punches him and the clock counts down, leading to Daniels entering the match. Daniels comes in with a couple of big forearms to Abyss and Hardy before nailing a big enzugiri and BME on Abyss. Daniels goes to the second rope, and brings himself down with a big stomp on Hardy’s chest.
Daniels and Kaz team up on Hardy and Abyss, trying to immobilize them before the numbers game comes back into effect. The crowd chants for Flair. Daniels hits an STO on Hardy locking in a Koji clutch, and Ric Flair is in the match. Flair chops Kaz and stomps Daniels before taking him into the corner, chopping him repeatedly and hitting a dirty low blow. Flair chops away at Kaz next before sending him head first into the side of the cage.
Hardy chokes Daniels in the ropes while Flair and Abyss double team Kaz in the corner, punching and chopping away at him. Hardy chokes Daniels in the corner with his boot, and the clock counts down yet again. Lance Storm is the next man in and he comes in spitting beer into the eyes of Abyss. He ducks a clothesline from Hardy and Hardy connects with Abyss only to eat a backstabber from Storm. Storm stares down Flair, and Flair begs off, but Storm smashes his beer bottle on Flair’s head, causing the blood to pour.
Storm is just taking it to Flair and Fourtune has turned things around. Storm has ripped off Flair’s wife beater, and some of his pants. Storm pulls down Flair’s boxers, and Bully Ray is in, taking it to all the members of Fortune, and turning the tide in favor of his team. This are basically just a brawl with the members of Immortal punching and kicking away at Fortune while Robert Roode simmers away on the outside.
Storm punches Storm’s forehear and Hardy chokes Daniels in the corner. Roode enters in the cage, and the roof will be lowered soon, starting the true Lethal Lockdown match. Roode takes out Abyss and Hardy before being stopped by a series of Flair chops, but Roode turns it around and chops Flair a few times himself before connecting with a big back body drop. Beer Money connect with a double suplex and the lights hit and the cage top with weapons begins to lower into place.
Fortune are already standing on the ropes waiting for the weapons, and their hands are full as soon as the cage top is lowered. They immediately begin the beat down, and there’s a terrible split screen. Abyss is knocked to the floor and through the cage door by a double team move, and Daniels follows out, smashing Abyss in the head with a trash can lid. Hardy goes to the outside and climbs to the top of the cage with Daniels in pursuit. Hardy and Daniels fight it out on top of the cage with Daniels laying Hardy out with a couple of punches. Daniels tries for the angel’s wings, but Hardy fights it off, almost sending Daniels crashing off of the cage to the floor. Daniels gets back on, and walks right into a twist of hate from Hardy.
Flair is ridiculously bloody in the ring. Bully Ray hits a big modified spinebuster, but he can’t get a three count. Storm hits a reverse DDT on Ray, but walks right into a couple of kendo stick shots from Flair, who then turns around into a spinebuster from Roode. Daniels is up on top of the cage, and he launches himself off on top of Abyss and Matt Hardy in a massive dive. Robert Roode locks in the figure four back in the middle of the ring, but Ray breaks it up with a trash can shot. Ray lays out Kaz and Daniels with trash can lid shots. Ray picks up a kendo stick and hits Roode, Daniels, then. Ray has another shot for everyone, then he hands Flair a kendo stick and they use them to wail away on Fortune.
Daniels is bloody now too, and Ray stands over him with an axe handle, but he’s interrupted by AJ Styles’ music. Styles runs down to the ring and attacks Ray, slamming him into the cage wall, and hitting the Pele kick. Styles rips off his Fortune shirt, and while Flair tries to attack, he’s grabbed from behind by Flair and thrown into the cage. Roode locks in an arm bar, and Flair is forced to tap.
Winners: Fortune and Christopher Daniels
The beat down continues after the match as AJ hits Ray with a trash can lid to lay him out. We get a recap of the highlights of the match. The Pay Per View ends with Fortune standing tall in the ring, with a newly returned AJ Styles alongside them.

From the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia

United States Championship
Lumberjack Match
The start:
I don’t have a full list but the lumberjacks include William Regal, Chavo Guerrero, Primo, R-Truth and Chris Masters. Daniel Bryan, the challenger, comes out first followed by the WWE United States Champion Sheamus.
Bryan starts out in control, throwing Sheamus over to the lumberjacks but Sheamus is able to get back to the ring. Teddy Long comes out. He said because of outside lumberjack involvement to the match, the bout will now be an over-the-top battle royal. All performers are in the ring working.
Mid-match notes:
Here are the competitors in addition to Daniel Bryan and WWE United States Champion Sheamus:
* R-Truth
* William Regal
* Ted DiBiase
* The Great Khali
* Primo
* Mark Henry
* The Usos
* Chris Masters
* Drew McIntyre
* Chavo Guerrero
* Tyson Kidd
* Evan Bourne
* Yoshi Tatsu
* JTG
Thanks to Wrestling News World reader Orlando for working as a live event correspondent tonight.
The finish:
The Great Khali won the match, eliminating Sheamus last.
Winner The Great Khali
The show opens with the crowd, and Justin Roberts welcoming the fans to WrestleMania, and he introduces Keri Hilson, who is here to sing America the Beautiful. The song is pretty basic, but Hilson handles it well, and finishes strong to a big pop from the crowd.
We get a video package hyping WrestlMania from the Georgia Dome. Tonight is touted as the best from Raw and SmackDown, and we’re introduced to the host for the night, The Rock! Rock’s music hits, and the crowd is going nuts. Rocky postures for the crowd for a bit, getting huge cheers in the process. Rock makes his way down to the ring, and we get a chance to look at the set, which looks phenomenal. The crowd is gigantic, and they are packed in way up to the rafters.
Rock has a mic in his hand, and the crowd is buzzing. Rock has a big smile on his face, and he plays with the fans for a bit before letting them know that he’s finally made his way back to Atlanta, and finally he’s come back to WrestleMania. Rock says he promises this will be the most memorable WrestleMania of all time. He asks the crowd if they can feel, taste, and smell the electricity in the air. Rock says they’re making history right now, so they’re going to do something special and have some fun. Rock wants to say ‘Wrestle’ and have the people say ‘Mania’, to which they oblige. Rock says he’s got goosebumps. Rock then calls out all the WWE Superstars, including one in particular who’s deciding which fruity pebble colored shirt he’s going to wear tonight. He says this is going to get good. Rock says ‘Yabba’ and gets the crowd to chant back ‘Dabba’. Then Rock does his ‘millions, and millions’ schtick.
Rock says tonight is the showcase of the immortals, and tonight’s host will be the Brahma Bull himself, The Rock! Rock is on fire tonight and the crowd is loving him. Rock starts to say ‘if you smell’ but cuts himself off. He says that’s the most famous catchphrase in the world, and he says that catchphrase belongs to the people. Rock asks everyone to get on their feet, asks them to feel the electricity, and gets the crowd to say ‘if you smell what the Rock is cookin’ along with him. Rock waves to the crowd and makes his way to the back. We get a video package highlighting the main events of several WrestlMania’s past, and it’s pretty slick how it highlights a lot of the stars of the Attitude Era who will be returning to WrestleMania tonight. We also get a quick look at the Title matches, as well as the Undertaker’s streak.
The pyro erupts, and Michael Cole welcomes us to ‘the fabric of Americana’, and the ‘pinnacle of entertainment’, WrestleMania. He says tonight is a turn away crowd. The bell rings, and the World Heavyweight Championship match will be kicking things off tonight.
World Heavyweight Championship Match
- Edge (c) vs. Alberto Del Rio
Alberto Del Rio’s personal ring announcer is announced, and he in turn announced Del Rio in his entrance. Del Rio doesn’t get much of a reaction, but these huge crowds are hard to read. Brodus Clay is already waiting at ringside for Del Rio. Christian is the next man out to the ring, with his own separate ring music. Jerry Lawler and Josh Matthews introduce themselves, and Cole interrupts to put himself over before introducing the Spanish announce team. The Champion is the last man out to the ring, and he gets a very good reaction from the crowd, although he has to avoid Del Rio’s car on the entrance ramp as he makes his way to the ring. They have one of those awesome screens that drop down into the ring, and this one almost looks like a cube of screens, it’s pretty neat. Cole puts over the fact that Edge has never successfully defended the title at WrestleMania. We get formal ring introductions, and it looks like we’re ready to kick things off in this one.
The start:
Del Rio and Edge lock up, and Del Rio backs Edge into the corner, only to break with a shove. Edge slaps Del Rio and comes right back with a series of right hands and a big back body drop. Del Rio gets up with a kick to the arm of Edge, and then a kick to the head, before slamming his head into the turnbuckle and kicking away at Edge’s midsection. Del Rio throws Edge into the ropes but Edge hangs on and when Del Rio charges, Edge back body drops him to the outside. Del Rio avoids a baseball slide and throws Edge into the barricade before slamming his arm into the steel ring steps, kicking at him, and sending Edge back into the ring for a quick near fall.
Mid-match notes:
Del Rio works on the shoulder, locking in a submission, and when Edge is able to fight up to his feet Del Rio slams him back down to the mat by his hair before wrapping him arm up in the ropes and wrenching away. Edge rolls to the outside and Brodus looks down at him, but doesn’t do anything. Del Rio comes out, slams Edge’s arm into the announce table, and rolls Edge right back into the ring where he locks in another submission targeting Edge’s shoulder. Edge gets up to his feet, but Del Rio knees him to put him back down. Del Rio charges Edge, but Edge avoids a kick, and Del Rio flies to the outside. Edge somersaults over the top rope and on top of Del Rio and both men are down.
Edge is able to get Del Rio back into the ring, but when Edge goes to the top, Del Rio brings him down with an arm drag that’s good for a near fall. Del Rio lays into Edge with a series of right hands, but when he lets up, Edge comes back with a spinning heel kick, and a big boot. Both men are slow to get up, but when they do Edge ducks a clothesline and delivers a forearm before connecting with a facebuster that’s good for another near fall. Del Rio is able to hit a single arm breaker, and he tries for the cross arm breaker, but Edge is able to connect with a reverse DDT variation, but it’s still not enough to put Del Rio away.
The finish:
Edge goes for the roll up, but Del Rio counters into the cross arm breaker and wrenches away. Edge is able to make it to the ropes to force a break. Edge rolls to the apron and snaps Del Rio’s throat over the top rope. Edge goes to the top but Del Rio jumps up and catches him with a big kick. Del Rio goes for the pin but Edge is able to get his foot on the ropes even though Del Rio’s announcer pushes it off. Christian chases him, and ends up dropkicked by Del Rio and slammed by Clay. Edge comes back with a roll up for two and drops Del Rio. Edge tries for the spear, but Del Rio avoids it and Brodus slams Edge’s shoulder into the ring post while Del Rio’s announcer distracts the ref. Del Rio is able to lock in the cross arm breaker and Edge holds on to roll up Del Rio for a two count, causing Del Rio to break. Edge locks in what looks to be a sharpshooter variant, and Christian hits a tornado DDT from the apron on Clay. Del Rio is trying to hold on and Edge breaks, only to connect with the spear. Edge covers Del Rio and gets the three count.
Winner and STILL World Heavyweight Champion: Edge
Edge celebrates with his title and we get a recap of some o the highlights of the match. Edge celebrates, and the crowd is excited. Edge makes his way up the ramp, and pauses by the Rolls Royce that Del Rio drove into the arena during his entrance. Edge places his title on the hood, and the crowd eggs him on. Edge goes to the kick door, but stops, much to Del Rio’s pleasure. Edge begins kicking the door and drops himself on top of the roof. Christian comes up from behind Edge, and fends Del Rio off with a crow bar. Christian gives the crow bar to Edge, and he uses it to scratch the paint, smash some of the windows and the windshield, and dent up the hood. Edge celebrates with his title and crowbar on top of Del Rio’s car while Del Rio looks on like he’s about to cry.
After Edge leaves, Del Rio looks his car over and bows his head, about to cry.
We get a commercial hyping the premiere of Tough Enough tomorrow night.
Singles Match
Rey Mysterio vs. Cody Rhodes
Cole taunts Lawler, saying everyone is here to see him beat Lawler in the main event tonight. He stands on his desk and holds up his Slammy. He continues to put himself over, even after Rhodes’ music hits. Rhodes comes out to a bit of an apathetic reaction, and focus finally returns to the history leading up to this bout. Rey Mysterio is the next man out to the ring, and this year’s extravagant outfit from Mysterio is Captain America influenced, and though it’s goofy, it’s still pretty cool to a comic book fan like me.
The start:
The bell rings, and Rey charges Rhodes, trying to pull his ring jacket off of him, and scaling to the top to hit a hurricarana from the top rope. Mysterio hits the ropes and Rhodes launches himself into Mysterio with a head butt using his mask. Rhodes tries to rip the knee brace off of Mysterio, but decides to launch him into the turnbuckle instead, hit Mysterio with another head butt and a springboard kick to the face thatputs Mysterio down for a two count. Rhodes locks up Mysterio in a modified camel clutch, ripping at Mysterio’s face.
Mid-match notes:
Mysterio fights out of the hold and tries for a hurricarana, but Rhodes stops him, and counters into the Alabama slam for another two count, and a shout out to his old tag team partner Hardcore Holly. Rhodes stomps away at Mysterio before going back to the knee brace. He abandons his plans again, instead stomping Mysterio and choking him against the ropes with his knee on the back of Rey’s head. Cody locks in a nerve hold, and Rey refuses to quit, fighting his way up to his feet. Rhodes tosses Mysterio into the corner, but Mysterio is able to come back with a couple of right hands from the apron. Mysterio goes up to the top, but Rhodes catches him with yet another head butt. Rhodes goes for a superplex, delaying the drop a good 20 seconds before crashing back down to the mat with Mysterio.
Rhodes goes for the pin but Mysterio kicks out at two. Rhodes begins to pound on Mysterio before sending him into the ropes and hitting him with a knee to the kidney. Rhodes goes for cross Rhodes, but Mysterio counters, and hits an arm drag that sends Rhodes to the outside. Rhodes gets hit with a dropkick, ducks a baseball slide, and gets hit with a hurricarana that sends him head first into the ring apron. Rhodes get sent back into the ring, and Mysterio follows with a seated senton. Mysterio out wrestles Cody and rolls him up for a quick two count. Mysterio backs Cody up into the corner, and sends himself up onto Rhode’s shoulders and rips at his mask. Mysterio goes for a casa dora, but Cody catches him and slams the back of his head into the mat.
Mysterio comes back with a springboard hurricarana and sends Rhodes into the ropes. Mysterio tries for the 619 but Rhodes catches his legs and slingshots him in the ropes, catches Rey’s neck on the ropes. Rhodes goes back to the well and rips away at Mysterio’s leg brace, kicking away at Mysterio when he tries to fight back. Rhodes is able to yank the knee brace off, and Rey comes right back with a head butt to the gut and a big moonsault press for a two count. Mysterio unclasps Rhodes’ mask and it falls off. Rhodes picks Mysterio up and eats a hurricarana that sends him into the ropes. Mysterio connects with the 619 and goes up to the top, but Rhodes gets his knees up. Mysterio comes right back with a big kick to the side of Rhodes’ head. Mysterio puts on Rhodes’ mask.
The finish:
Mysterio launches himself into Rhodes with a series of head butts. Rhodes kicks at Rey, but ends up in the ropes. Rey goes to the top and launches himself off with a big head butt, but Rhodes is able to kick out of a pin. Rhodes rolls to the outside and grabs Mysterio’s brace, whacking him when Mysterio goes to dive to the floor. Rhodes brings Mysterio back into the ring and hits the cross Rhodes, pinning Mysterio and scoring the three count.
Winner: Cody Rhodes
Rhodes heads to the back, and covers up his face. Cole and Lawler continue to bicker, while Josh Matthews puts over some of the past celebs, and calls out Snoop Dogg who is here tonight.
Snoop is backstage with Teddy Long, saying he’s looking for some talent, and Long says he’s lined up some talent. They sit down at a table and Snoop says to let the dogs loose. William Regal comes up to a little stage a lets out with a little rap, asking if that’s gangster enough, snoop says no.
Khali and some girl are shown singing Summer Lovin’ and Snoop asks for the next.
Zak Ryder is shown singing Friday, and the crowd loves it, he’s hit from behind by Roddy Piper to Snoop’s delight.
Masters and Yoshi Tatsu are shown. Master’s pecs bounce in time to We Will Rock You while Tatsu sings it.
Hornswoggle is shown next, and he’s simply giggling. Long says ‘swoggle can’t talk, and Snoop asks if it’s true. Hornswoggle grunts, and Long and Snoop leave. When they’re gone, the music hits and Hornswoggle puts on some sunglasses and music hits, and little ‘swoggle raps while the Bella’s dance behind him.
8-Man Tag Team Match
Big Show, Kane, Kofi Kingston & Santino Marella vs. The Corre
The start:
The Corre are out to the ring first, as a group obviously, and they get a bit of heat from the crowd. Kane and Big Show are out next, the first two men for their team. Santino is the third man out for his team, and he get a nice reaction from the crowd, as he sort of speed walks his way down to the ring, to the delight of the crowd. Kingston is the last man down to the ring, and he runs down to a big pop from the crowd.
This will likely be tough to cover, so please bear with me.
Mid-match notes:
Santino and Slater look to start things off and Slater decks Santino, kicking him and mounting him with a series of punches.
Santino ducks a clothesline and hits a hip toss before tagging out to Big Show who launches Slater with a back body drop and splashes him in the corner before hitting a big shoulder block. Jackson is in out of nowhere with a clothesline that takes out Show. Kane takes out Jackson, Barrett takes out Kane. Kingston takes out Barrett.
The finish:
Santino hits the cobra on Slater and Show follows up with the KO punch, pinning Slater and winning the match.
Winners: Big Show, Santino Marella, Kofi Kingston and Kane
It wasn’t all that difficult to follow after all. Santino is able to sneak in his trombone spot, and I’m pretty sure I saw Show doing it too.
Rock is shown backstage with Eve. He tells Eve he’s got a gift, and allows her to feel his bicep. Eve says this whole weekend has been magical. Rock says he does magical moments. He says whoever comes around the corner he will create an incredible moment with. Rock turns around and it’s Mae Young. Rock grimaces, and calls Mae a divasauras. Mae asks for the people’s strudel. Rock says she should be craving from other people, like Moses. Rock introduces Eve and says she’s like Young’s childhood friends Adam and Eve. Young says she’s legendary and she’ll never get old. Rock asks Eve to escort Mae to her seats, and Mae is able to smack Rock’s behind. Rock says it could have been anyone else coming around the corner.
Rock turns around and Steve Austin is there. Rock asks if Austin is ready to kick some ass. Austin says oh yeah, and Rock says he’s going to bring it. They shake hands and each says it was good to see the other before Austin walks off.
Singles Match
Randy Orton vs. CM Punk
We get a video package detailing the events that stretch back two years that have led up to this match. CM Punk is the first man out to the ring, and he makes his way out to a bit of a mixed reaction from this Atlanta crowd. Orton’s music hits, and the place erupts. Orton makes his way down to the ring quicker than usual, but he’s got a longer ramp than normal, so it takes a while anyways. Orton’s right leg is taped up to sell the assault from Punk this past Monday on Raw.
The start:
The bell rings, and Punk tries to take Orton down but Orton mounts Punk with a couple of punches before lacing into him with a big European uppercut and a huge clothesline. Orton clotheslines Punk over the top to the outside and he follows, hitting another sick Europen uppercut. Orton tries to send Punk into the steps, but Punk jumps on the then over them, then kicks the steps right into Orton’s injured knee. Punk rolls Orton back into the ring, and goes to the top, launching himself off with a big cross body block that’s good for a two count. Punk mocks Orton, limping over to him in the corner before hitting him with a big right hand and kicking away at him. Orton comes back with a series of right hands, and hits his signature back breaker.
Mid-match notes:
Orton hesitates, and Punk goes right back on the offensive, attacking Orton’s knee. Punk rips at Orton’s face, and ties his knee up in the ropes before kicking at it, and hitting his running high knee. Punk comes down on the back of Orton’s knee with a knee drop, and he pins Orton for two. Punk sits Orton on the top turnbuckle, and locks him in a single leg tree of woe. Punk goes to the top turnbuckle, and brings himself down on top of Orton with a big double stomp, but it’s still only good enough for two. Punk calls for the G2S, and he gets Orton on his shoulders, but Orton fights out of it, and tries for the RKO. Punk responds with a kick to the face that’s good enough for a near fall. Punk goes back up to the top, but he takes too long and Orton hits the ropes, causing Punk to crotch himself on the top turnbuckle. Orton goes up to the second rope, then the top, and brings Punk down with a gigantic superplex. Orton crawls to make the pin but Punk kicks out at two.
Punk goes to the outside and grabs Orton’s leg, wrapping it around the ring post and locking in a figure four with Orton’s leg wrapped around the ring post. Punk breaks the hold to not get DQ’ed, and he heads back into the ring, going right back to work on Orton’s leg with a submission, and bashing away at his knee. Orton tries to fight him off, but Punk keeps the hold locked on. Orton falls back to the mat and almost goes down for a pin, but he kicks out, and head butt’s Punk until Punk releases the hold. Back on his feet Orton hits a couple of clotheslines and his snap powerslam. Orton takes Punk down and lays into him with a series of right hands before hitting an Angle slam. Orton pins Punk, but Punk kicks out.
Orton picks Punk up and Punk kicks Orton a couple of times, dropping him to the mat, and Punk locks in the Anaconda Vice, wrenching away at Orton’s neck. Orton is able to roll him and Punk over into the ropes, forcing Punk to break the hold. Punk goes to the apron, and he reaches over into the ring to grab Orton by the head. Orton launches Punk into the ring post, and sets Punk up for his rope assisted DDT, connecting and laying Punk out. Orton pounds on the mat, and begins staring at Punk. Orton gets back up to his feet, and he backs up, readying to punt Punk in the head. Orton goes for the punt, but his leg gives out and Orton falls halfway across the ring, causing Punk to laugh.
The finish:
Punk gets back up to his feet and walks over toward Orton who tries to sneak in an RKO, but Punk is able to push Orton away and roll out to the apron. Orton is slow to get back up, and when he does Punk springboards toward him. Orton catches Punk with an RKO, and pins him for the three count.
Winner: Randy Orton
Rock is shown backstage with Mean Gene Okerlund. Rock says Cena’s number one fan is backstage and he’s here to confront the Rock. Gene says he’s already there. Rock turns around and says of course, then asks if the fan has anything to say for themselves. The camera pans over to Pee Wee Herman, who says You Can’t See Me! Rock says Pee Wee looks ridiculous, and asks if Pee Wee wants to join team Bring It. He says if he’s a fan of Cena, he’ll look like this, and the camera pans over to Mean Gene decked out in Cena gear, and Pee Wee says he looks like a tool. Pee Wee says he wants to switch to Team Bring It, and he asks the crowd if they smell what the Pee is cooking.
The 2011 WWE Hall of Fame Inductees are introduced, one by one. Abdullah the Butcher; Sunny; Paul Ellering and Road Warrior Animal, representing the Road Warriors; Drew Carey, who gets a ton of heat from the crowd; Bullet Bob Armstrong and Hacksaw Jim Duggan. Oh yeah, there’s one more. And we’re reminded of that fact as Shawn Michaels’ music hits, and the Heartbreak Kid makes his way out to the ramp to a big pop from the Georgia Dome. Howard Finkel once again introduces the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2011.
We get a recap of last Monday when Lawler took on Jack Swagger and was DQ’ed by whacking Swagger with a chair. We also get footage of Lawler attacking Cole’s announcing chamber, and trying to attack Cole before having what looked like coffee thrown in his face.
Singles Match
Special guest referee “Stone Cold” Steve Austin
- Michael Cole w/Jack Swagger vs. Jerry Lawler
The first man announced is someone who will be helping Josh Matthews announce the bout, Booker T. And in a great surprise, JR is announced as well, and he will be commentating in addition to Booker and Matthews.
The start:
Cole interrupts JR’s entrance, and he comes out dressed in bright orange sweats, and amateur wrestling headgear. Cole runs down JR, and says that Jerry Lawler is the man with the biggest Ego in the world. Cole says Lawler and JR have a lot in common. They’re both overweight, overrated, and over the hill. JR looks on stoically. Cole says he’s been thinking about this match, and what he’s been thinking about is that Lawler has been in the business as long as Cole has been alive, but tonight is Lawler’s first WrestleMania, and this is also Cole’s first WrestleMania. Cole says when this main event has concluded, JR is going to go back to making really bad BBQ sauce, Jerry Lawler will be humiliated, and Steve Austin will raise Cole’s hand in victory, and everyone all over the world will proclaim Cole Mr. WrestleMania.
Mid-match notes:
Cole’s trainer/manager Jack Swagger is the next man out to the ring. Cole has the sweats off and he’s dressed in a singlet like Swagger, but it’s neon orange, and really hurts my eyes to look at. Swagger does some push ups in the middle of his entrance, and he’s interrupted by Steve Austin, who comes to the ring on a four wheeler, and runs Swagger off the entrance ramp. Austin rides the four wheeler around the ring a couple of times, and Cole bails from the ring and he hides himself in his announcing security booth. Cole tells Austin he doesn’t need the four wheeler. Austin looks as though he doesn’t really care. Cole stands on his desk, and Austin poses in the ring to big pops from the Georgia crowd.
I just want to note that even though it’s only been a couple of minutes, it’s great to hear JR on commentary again. Jerry Lawler is the next man to make his way out to the ring, and it’s mind blowing to think that this is King’s first WrestleMania, but it’s great to be seeing it. King is in a pretty neat getup with a cape and some kind of tailored armor. Lawler stares down Cole, who’s still standing on his desk. Booker says he’s been waiting for this match all night.
Lawler is in the ring and Cole is still warming up on his desk. Austin calls him into the ring, and Cole refuses to come in. Austin asks for the bell, and gets it. King goes to the outside, ducks a clothesline from Swagger and slams him head first into the ring post and barricade. King stalks Cole, and Cole begs off in his announce chamber, asking to let bygones be bygones. Cole reaches for a handshake through a hand hole in his booth. Lawler grabs on and Cole thanks him but Lawler won’t let go. Lawler yanks Cole into the booth repeatedly before just pulling him up against the booth as hard as he can. Lawler climbs into the booth and begins slamming Cole up against the walls before beating Cole repeatedly and laying into him with a big right hand.
Lawler brings things out of the booth and slams Cole head first into the anonymous GM podium. King rolls Lawler into the ring, and Swagger sneaks up behind Lawler and slams him chest first into the ring. Cole is able to get back up to his feet when he awaits Lawler in the ring. Lawler gets back up to his feet, and Cole connects with a bit of a baseball slide before complaining to Austin about something being in his eye. Swagger uses this distraction to lock in the ankle lock momentarily, helping wear down Lawler. Cole begins counting for Austin, and Austin finally begins the ten count for Jerry on the outside, but Lawler is able to make it back in. Cole jumps right on Jerry’s leg and ankle smashing it down into the canvas.
Cole wraps Lawler’s leg around the ropes and wrenches away. Austin begins the five count and Cole is forced to break the hold. Cole props Lawler’s leg up on the bottom rope and charges it, kicking the back of Lawler’s leg. He goes this a second time, before setting Lawler up in the corner and jumping up to the middle, then back down to the bottom turnbuckle and going for the Vader bomb. Cole connects and goes for the pin, but Lawler tosses him off. Cole ‘struts’ around the ring, and continues to work over Lawler’s knee, slamming it down to the mat repeatedly. Cole smashes Lawler’s knee down into the mat, and Cole high fives Swagger, who gives him moral support.
Cole pulls down one of his straps to mock the King, and the locks in the ankle lock on Lawler. Austin asks Lawler is he’d like to give up but King refuses and kicks Cole off. Lawler goes over into the corner and grabs Cole, preventing him from leaving the ring. Lawler stomps on Cole repeatedly in the corner, and Austin allows it for a bit, but eventually pulls Lawler off of Cole. Swagger throws in the towel and Austin and Lawler look at it. Austin uses the towel to wipe his sweat off, then throws it back at Swagger. Swagger gets into the ring to complain, and Austin doesn’t care, hitting a stunner to send Swagger to the outside instead.
The finish:
Cole begs to Austin, and Austin doesn’t care, so Cole shoves Austin. Another shove and Austin shoves back, sending Cole right into a big right hand from Lawler. Lawler waylays Coler with a series of right hands, not stopping even when Cole is laid out on the mat. Lawler lets Cole get up, and Lawler connects with a huge dropkick! It’s AWESOME!. Lawler goes to the middle rope and takes down his strap, launching himself off with a big fist drop. Lawler goes for the pin, but he picks Cole’s head up off the mat after two. Lawler and Austin smile at each other. Lawler locks in the ankle lock, and Cole immediately begins tapping with both hands. Austin repeatedly asks Cole if he gives up, allowing him to suffer, and Cole is screaming in pain. Austin eventually calls for the bell, and this one is over.
Winner: The King Jerry Lawler
After the match, Austin and Lawler share four beers, two each, and Booker can’t contain himself, heading into the ring and giving Lawler a high ten. Booker takes off his jacket and asks the crowd if they want a spinaroonie. Booker’s music comes on, and he does the spinaroonie, to Austin’s delight. Austin calls for another beer, and hands it to Booker. Austin toasts Booker, but connects with a stunner, causing Booker to spew his beer out of his mouth. Austin calls for even more beers, and gives another to Lawler, drinking another round with the King.
The lights dim and we get the annoying beep that signals an e-mail from the anonymous GM. Josh Matthews gets up to read that apparently the referee has overstepped his authority in this match, therefore, Jerry Lawler is DQ’ed, and the winner is Michael Cole. Matthews apologizes to King, but reiterates that he lost. Austin throws his beer at the announce table. Matthews reiterates a third time and King is not happy. He tosses Josh into the ring and Austin immediately connects with a stunner.
Winner: Michael Cole
Austin gets on his four wheeler and drives away, presumably to search for the GM, and King returns to the announce table, with none other than his old broadcast partner, Good Old JR.
We get a video package highlighting some of the events that took place over the last week leading into WrestleMania, including the Fan Axxess events.
No Holds Barred Match
The Undertaker vs. Triple H
We get a video package of the events that have led up to this match, and everything is there, except of course, for the WrestleMania match these two had against each other way back at WrestleMania X7.
The lights go out in the arena, and a Metallica song begins playing (I’m not a big fan so I couldn’t tell you what it actually is).Hunter has a ridiculous set up as a group of guys come out to the stage carrying shields, and they get into a line. When the spotlight comes on, the group parts and Hunter is standing there in a goofy chain-mail headdress and a fur robe. The lights go out again, and when they come back on, Hunter is standing there dressed to fight in his wrestling trunks. He makes his way down to the ring to a great pop from the crowd. Just a note, the music did eventually shift back to his normal Motorhead theme.
The lights go out again, this time it’s preceded by a gong, and the crowd goes absolutely nuts. Fire shoots up from around the entranceway, and Taker’s awesome Johnny Cash theme cues. The fake smoke is billowing and Taker makes his way slowly up the ramp. Hunter does not take his eyes off of Taker as he makes his way down to the ring. These entrances are taking forever, but both, especially Takers, are pretty neat spectacles in themselves.
The start:
Both men stare each other down in the middle of the ring before backing off into their own corners. The bell rings, and both charge in, Hunter gets the jump, pounding on Taker in the corner with big right hands. Taker shoves Hunter away and he grabs him on both sides of his head, tossing him over the top rope to the outside. When Taker goes to the outside Hunter lays into him with a series of right hands, but Taker slams Hunter head first into the ring steps. Taker immediately begins tearing apart the Spanish announce table, but when he turns around, Hunter launches himself into Taker and they tumble through Cole’s announce chamber.
Mid-match notes:
Hunter goes back into the ring and calls the Undertaker back in. Taker is more than happy to oblige and he’s able to connect with a leaping lariat before focusing on Hunter’s shoulder by using his shoulder to batter Triple H, and going for Old School. Hunter is able to counter Old School with a slam from the top rope. Taker gets back to his feet and ends up clotheslined over the top rope to the outside where he crashes into the barricade. Triple H slams Taker’s head into the barricade before launching him into another ringside barricade. Hunter begins taking apart Cole and Lawler’s announce table, slamming Taker’s head into it and climbing up on top of it with Taker. Hunter goes for the pedigree and Taker tries to counter with the chokeslam, but Hunter fights it off. Another pedigree attempt, and Taker back body drops Trips TO THE FLOOR from the announce table, and Hunter lands with a sick thud.
Taker makes his way back into the ring and uses the ropes to climb back up to his face. The official is not counting, as this is essentially a no DQ match. Taker goes into the ropes and launches himself over the ropes and does a no hands plancha launching himself into Hunter and crashing to the floor in a scary spot. Taker is back up quickly and he picks up the ring steps and sets them up away from the ring post. Taker walks over to Hunter and picks him up by the hair, dragging him over to the steps and slamming his head into them. Taker stands up on the ring steps, next to the Spanish announce table, and picks up Hunter trying for the Tombstone, Hunter fights out of it, and Taker ends up bailing to the floor. Taker charges Hunter and finds himself eating a spinebuster from the ringsteps through the Spanish announce table.
Hunter picks Taker back up and throws him into the ring and Taker struggles to get back to his feet. Both men are up and Taker connects with a chokeslam out of nowhere. Taker goes for the pin but only gets a two count. Taker picks Hunter up and hits a big head butt and a kick to the gut. Hunter backs Taker up into the corner and slams his shoulder into Taker’s midsection. Hunter hits a big right hand to Taker’s face, and he mounts Taker in the corner, hitting a couple of right hands, but Taker counters, trying for the last ride, but Hunter escapes. Hunter tries for the pedigree, but Taker counters out into snake eyes. Taker hits the ropes and Hunter comes right back with a big spinebuster that’s good for a two count.
Hunter grabs a chair and makes his way back into the ring, but Taker catches Hunter with a big boot to avoid the blow. Taker picks up the chair himself and uses it to whack Triple H across the back with a sick shot that bends the chair. Taker tries for another, but Hunter kicks Taker in the gut and connects with the pedigree. Hunter pins Taker and gets a close two count, but Taker is still able to kick out. Hunter picks Taker up and seats him on the top rope, hitting him with a big right hand. Taker slips down and goes for the Last Ride, connecting this time. Taker goes for the pin, but Hunter kicks out at two, and Taker looks flustered. Taker signals for the tombstone, and he attempts it, connecting and driving Hunter down on top of his head, but Hunter is able to kick out at two, and Taker looks furious.
Taker picks up the chair and tosses it down in the center of the ring. Taker picks Hunter up and goes for the tombstone again, but Hunter counters and connects with a DDT on top of the steel chair Taker had set up. Taker rolls over and shoves Hunter’s head. Both men struggle to make it back up to their feet. Eventually they do, and when they do, Hunter immediately connects with a second pedigree, but another pin attempt results in another two count. Again, both are slow to their feet, but Hunter gets up and yanks Taker over and into the pedigree for a third time. Hunter goes right into the pin, and Taker still kicks out at two Hunter looks frustrated, and he too will now turn to the chair in the ring. Hunter uses the chair and the ropes to get to his feet and he slams Taker across the back. Another blow bends the chair even further. Hunter tells Taker to get up then hits him with seven more consecutive chair shots.
Hunter falls over in exhaustion, and the referee looks at Taker, asking if he’s able to continue. Hunter yells at Taker to stay down. Taker goes over into the ropes and tries to pull himself to his feet. Hunter is already up with the chair again when Taker gets up to his feet, and Hunter hits Taker with a chair shot to the head. Taker looks dazed, but he’s still working toward getting back to his feet. Hunter looks like he can’t believe it. Hunter yells at Taker again, telling him to stay down, and asking what’s wrong with Taker. Taker won’t give up though, and when Hunter asks what’s wrong with Taker a second time, Taker grabs him around the throat. Hunter pushes his hand away and Taker stumbles to his feet, putting his fists up and calling Hunter on. Hunter ducks a punch and goes for, and connects with, a tombstone on Taker, pinning him in his own pose for an extra insult, but Taker kicks out at two! And Hunter looks stunned, backing away instantly!
The crowd loves it. Hunter rolls to the outside and goes under the ring to grab his trusty old friend, the sledgehammer. Hunter rolls back into the ring with his new weapon, and he stalks Taker. Hunter pulls Taker into the center of the ring, but Taker is able to sneakily lock in the Hell’s gate submission. Taker is wrenching away and Hunter is struggling, but he begins fading. Hunter continues to struggle, and he eventually finds his hammer, but he fades too fast to use it, dropping it instead.
The finish:
Hunter eventually succumbs, and he’s forced to tap, becoming yet another notch in the Undertaker’s WrestleMania belt.
Winner: The Undertaker
The Undertaker is now 19-0 at WrestleMania
The fireworks explode, and 19-0 flashes on the giant screen in the Georgia Dome. Both men are still laid out on the canvas, looking completely exhausted. Following the match, trainers come in to look at the Undertaker, who hasn’t moved following the finish. Hunter makes his way up to his feet, and he’s got a tiny cut on the bridge of his nose. The trainer attempts to roust Taker to roll him out of the ring, and though he’s slow to it, Taker eventually makes his way toward the back.
On his way out of the ring, Taker falls to his knees and on his face. Hunter attempts to help, but he’s waved off by the referee. Taker grabs the ring apron to get back to his feet, but he can’t. Taker appears to be passed out on the arena floor, and the referee and trainer are waiting for a stretcher. Medics roll down to the ring with a mobile gurney, and Taker is helped to his feet and placed on the back of the gurney with the help of medical staff. Taker is taken out of the ring on the back of the mobile stretcher.
6-Person Mixed Tag Team Match
Trish Stratus, Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi & John Morrison vs. Dolph Ziggler & LayCool
Vickie Guerrero interrupts Justin Roberts to excuse herself, and announce Dolph Ziggler whom she then leads to the ring. LayCool are out next, together of course, and they don’t get much of a reaction at all. This match probably won’t do much for the crowd after the war they just witnessed.
The start:
John Morrison is the first man out for his team, followed by his tag team partner Trish Stratus. Both get fairly large pops from the Atlanta crowd. Snooki is the final competitor to make her way to the ring, in a t-shirt a short shorts. Morrison Snooki and Trish make their way into the ring. They are promptly attacked by LayCool and Ziggler and Morrison break it up. Snooki slaps Ziggler across the face, and Ziggler is upset about it. McCool shoves away Layla as she wants to start the match against Trish.
Mid-match notes:

Justin Roberts announces that this is the biggest crowd ever at the Georgia Dome at 71,617 people.
WWE Championship Match
- The Miz (c) vs. John Cena
We go straight to the ring, and Justin Roberts announces the next match for the WWE Championship. We get a video package that highlights the Miz’s run all the way from the character’s creation on The Real World, to his winning of the WWE World Championship. There’s even an appearance from the very angry little girl. The package is basically Miz watching his own rise, and the P. Diddy song ‘Hate Me Now’ kicks in while a highlight reel of Miz’s achievements runs.
Miz walks out to the ring through a giant inflatable ‘AWESOME’ Miz walks out with Riley in tow, and he gets an impressive little pyro display, which really just goes to show how incredibly far Miz has come in the last year.
Let’s see what Cena’s ridiculously over-the-top entrance will be this year. An entire Black chorus is on stage in red and white robes. The choir is backing up one particular woman, and all of them are pretty darn impressive. We get a video package with a prayer by what sounds like DMX over a video of Cena highlights. The choir kicks in again, clapping and singing what sounds to be Cena’s theme song. It’s really impressive, but the crowd sounds like they hate it. Cena comes out in a brand new bright red t-shirt, hat and wristband combo. The reaction is hard to peg after the first initial pop, but the crowd sounded more anti-Cena than anything at first. We get formal ring introductions, and it doesn’t look like this one will last very long, so it’ll be interesting to see how it goes.
The start:
JR puts over the fact that Cena has never lost a single’s match at WrestleMania. The bell rings, and we’re ready to begin.
The bell rings again for some odd reason, haha. Cena and Miz circle each other and then lock up. Miz locks in a head lock and Cena fights it off immediately. Another lock up and Miz locks in another head lock. Cena sends Miz into the ropes and Miz takes Cena down with a shoulderblock, only to be taken down by a hip toss from Cena. Miz backs into the corner to force a break. Miz and Cena go for a test of strength, but Cena decides to lock in a headlock instead and the crowd does not like it. Miz clocks Cena and Cena falls to the mat where he’s stomped repeatedly by Miz.
Mid-match notes:
Miz catches Cena with his corner clothesline and he goes for the pin, but Cena kicks out at two. Miz tags Cena with a couple of big right hands, but Cena won’t stay down, no matter how much Miz yells at him to. Cena comes up with a gutwrench suplex and goes right for the cover, but Miz kicks out at two. It’s worth noting that this crowds sounds fairly pro-Miz. Miz hits a jumping slam, planting Cena on the mat. Cena pulls himself up in the corner, but when Miz goes for the corner clothesline again, Cena moves and Miz crashes and burns. Cena hits the leg drop to the back of Miz’s head from the top rope for a two count, and when Cena charges Miz, Miz avoids it and Cena eats the turnbuckle. Miz kicks Cena in the head and gets another near fall out of it.
Miz waits for Cena to get back up on his feet and goes for a quick left hand, then another. Miz kicks Cena in the gut before sending him into the ropes. Miz dropes down and Cena trips over him, sending Cena into the ropes where he’s kicked to the outside by the Miz. Miz follows to the outside and sets Cena up on the apron hitting a big knee lift and jacking Cena’s jaw from the floor. Miz rolls back in and goes for another cover but he’s only able to get two. Miz waits for Cena to get up and he goes for a clothesline but Cena ducks, hits two shoulderblocks, and the big side suplex. Cena connects with the five knuckle shuffle and tries for the AA, but Miz fights out of it and connects with a low DDT that’s good for a two count for Miz.
Miz counters the STF and instead slams Cena’s face into the canvas and gets another near fall, and Cena has been on the defensive for a good portion of this match. Riley tries to help Miz expose a turnbuckle, and Cena gets a roll up while the ref is dealing with it, leading to a two count for Cena. Miz tries to use the turnbuckle, and Cena avoids it, eventually locking in the STF. The ref asks if Miz wants to give it up, but Miz is able to fight into the ropes and force a break. Cena is driven into the exposed turnbuckle by Riley and he eats an SCF from Miz, but Cena is still able to kick out at two!
Miz begins stalking Cena and goes for another SCF, but Cena tosses Miz off and into the referee. Cena is able to connect with the AA, but the referee is still out from being run into by the Miz. Riley is in the ring and he’s got the briefcase in his hands, and when Cena turns around from tending to the ref, he’s clocked by Riley. Miz goes for the pin, and the ref recovers to count two for Cena. Riley argues with the ref, and Miz uses this opportunity to try to hit Cena with the briefcase but Cena moves and Miz connects with Riley. Cena hits the AA on Miz and goes for the pin, but Miz kicks out at two and rolls to the outside. Cena follows and clotheslines Miz over the ringside barricade into the timekeeper’s area.
The finish:
Miz ends up going another barricade when Cena launches himself into Miz and the two end up over the barricade and in the fans. The referee’s count continues, and both men end up counted out, so this match has been ruled a draw.
Draw
Still WWE Champion: The Miz
The Rock’s music hits and interrupts’ the Miz’s, who is still out on the arena floor with Cena amongst the fans. Rocky doesn’t look happy as he rips off his jacket and stomps out to the ring, but he better hurry because there’s only a couple of minutes left. The lights dim and apparently there’s another e-mail from the anonymous GM. Rock goes out to read it, waving off Lawler who also offers to read. Rock goes up and asks for the crowd’s attention. He says he received an e-mail. As Raw GM, I think, but Rock says it doesn’t matter what they think, and tosses the laptop aside. Rock says he’s the host of Mania, and there’s no way it’s over. Rock says this match must restart right now. No DQ,no countout, no time limit. Rock says take pretty much everything and stick it up your candy ass, it’s time to give the people what they want.
Back in the ring, Cena tries for the AA on Miz, but Miz fights out of it. Cena turns around only to eat a huge Rock bottom from the Rock. Miz takes advantage and crawls over to pin Cena, and he gets the three count and hands Cena his first singles loss at WrestleMania.
Winner and STILL WWE Champion: The Miz
Miz celebrates with his title, and the Rock stares him down the whole time. Rock charges back into the ring and catches Miz with a blistering series of right hands. Rock ties Miz up and takes Miz down to the mat with a big spinebuster. Rock sets Miz up and connects with the most electrifying move in sport’s entertainment when he hits the People’s elbow. Rock’s music hits, and he poses on the crowd, telling the crowd that he brings it, and posing in front of the huge WrestleMania sign. We get highlights from the match, and the PPV ends with the Rock, riding high and posing in front of the crowd to a ton of love from the Georgia Dome.
