Jerome’s thoughts on RAW: Kofi & Randy Stole the show & more
Published November 17th, 2009 in Columns
The biggest night for RAW at the Garden was the ongoing feud with Kofi Kingston and Randy Orton. The WWE did an excellent job Monday night building this match for the Survivor Series. The action between these two was phenomenal. I have always been a fan of pull apart brawls if they are done correctly. This one was great to watch. It was great back and forth action. Kofi hitting Orton in the head with the case and then breaking away from the refs after being pulled down from the guard rail, to climb back up and crash through the table added that extra intensity. I know that Vince has issues with blood because of the product being TVPG, but Orton and the camera crew did a good job of hiding it for the most part. In this case a little blood does make sense in the way Orton was hit on the head. The blood was used properly and was not over boad. (The WWF had blood in the 80’s, so Vince should be a little more lenient when it comes to blood). The crowd was really into this brawl, and the chant of Kofi’s name shows that he is really over with the crowd. I applaud the WWE for giving him this push in main event status even after his loss of the U.S. to The Miz. This should be a great match up on Sunday at the Survivor Series.
The main event was great in ring action. Everyone did their part to keep the match unpredictable. Having the Undertaker on RAW made the show feel special and again was a good tease for Sunday. The Undertaker looks good for being almost 50. The Undertaker giving the tombstone pile driver to John Cena after the match is vintage Undertaker.
These two segments of RAW gave me the old school feel of the old WWF and even NWA/WCW. The WWE continues to make me want to watch their product again. I think the change to a PG product and the old school feel is step in the right direction for increased ratings and attracting new viewers.
