Linda’s Thoughts - Smackdown/The Draft

Published June 22nd, 2008 in Columns

I have gotten so many emails from many of you asking just whom I would trade to what show. I’m embarrassed to tell you that I’m having a hell of a time with this draft. In the past I used to just come up with names and move them around, but this time around it’s not that easy for me. So bare with me and I’ll give you just a few names that I could see moving to other brands. I wish I had a long list but as I said this time its not so cut and dry for me. I’m thinking part of it is because of ECW. Instead of just moving someone from Raw to Smackdown or visa versa I have to come up with trades to and from ECW and that’s the brand where I having the most difficulty. I’ll give you what I came up with and before I talk about the draft I am very quickly going to say a few words about Smackdown. Last night’s show wasn’t one of my favorites and that’s why this will be quick but maybe not painless.

MVP gets my star of the night with his outstanding promo during the opening of the show. I thought his mic work was excellent and I would have to say that he was the highlight of the show. What I didn’t like about Smackdown was the BIG guys beating down the smaller guys in typical squash like fashion. Granted Kane vs. MVP was more a match, but we have seen them so many times before that I really wasn’t paying attention to them like I should have. But then we got Kozlov vs. Noble, Khali vs. referee Charles Robinson and what really surprised me was Matt Hardy vs. Bam Neely. Poor Matt was doing his best against a very sluggish Bam Neely. I wonder how fast he could move if he was on fire. I expected so much from this guy; he’s got a great look well he did until I saw him without a shirt. He’s a little too much in the belly department and I feel that his size really slows him down. It’s hard to find Matt Hardy in a bad match, but Bam Neely just looked awful out there. All of these matches just ruined the show. Layla vs. Michelle McCool was decent, and I couldn’t have been happier to see Deuce and Domino beat the hell out of each other, I thought that all played out quite well. The main event with La Familia taking care of Batista was okay, yet because we have seen this so much before with Taker and even Batista months ago it really didn’t appeal to me. So Smackdown just didn’t deliver and I have to give Raw and ECW the edge this week.

With that said Smackdown did one thing for me it made me re think my MVP trade to Raw. After witnessing his strong promo against Vickie and Edge I think I would keep MVP on Smackdown turn him face and move him up to eventually take on Edge. I don’t know how many months I have wanted MVP to go to Raw as a top heel, but after last night I think he could play a face perfectly so I would keep him on Smackdown. I would however move Batista to Raw. I think Batista has gone through most of the Smackdown roster and a Raw return is due. And I think it’s time to switch Rey Mysterio to Raw. Rey has been on Smackdown from day one and I would love to see him move to Raw and go against a heel Triple H. As far as Raw goes, I would definitely send Cena to Smackdown I really hope those Smackdown rumors are true. Let’s face it I don’t see Triple going there, and Smackdown needs a major player like Cena. Cena could then take on Edge, and maybe even Undertaker. Now if Cena doesn’t get traded, then you know who could make Smackdown a hot show? None other than Shawn Michaels. This could be Shawn’s show and I could see big ratings with him there. He’s got Edge, Chavo, that’s right I could see some good matches with these two and how about giving the fans what they want, TAKER VS. HBK. If John Cena remains on Raw then I would move Michaels there and really play that trade up. Also Santino should go to Smackdown, I think a change would do him good and he could bring Carlito and Umaga with him. They could all benefit going to Smackdown. Matt Hardy needs to go to Raw; he’s just stagnant over on Smackdown. It’s time for Matt to go to Raw and get the push that he really deserves. So if Matt comes to Raw guess where I would put Jeff Hardy? You got it I would trade him to ECW. Hey he could be the BIG DOG there and lets face it he screams extreme. I would love to see him go there and in time become the ECW champion. With Jeff there I would trade CM Punk to Raw and I would move Paul London to ECW, but I would keep Kendrick on Raw. Cryme Tyme would go to Smackdown, and I would send Domino to Raw and keep Deuce on Smackdown.

Then I would trade JBL back to Smackdown, and move Finlay to Raw, but I’m not so sure Hornswoggle should go with him. I have to think about that one. Chuck Palumbo I would trade to ECW and move Estrada to Smackdown. I don’t think Raw needs Ashley so why not let ECW have her and move Kelly Kelly to Raw. And I would not change any of the announce teams, I think each show should keep the guys they have. And finally I would love to see Jamie Noble, Shannon Moore, Jimmy Wang Yang and other cruiserweights move to ECW, I really believe these guys would be perfect for this brand and I wish Vince would bring the Cruiserweight title back and make it a big thing on ECW. Of course I know Vince isn’t going to make that division a part of ECW, he’s anti small guys.

So that’s my trade list, I have so enjoyed the ones that you guys have sent to me and I have to say that I’m so excited about Monday’s show. And I really hope that there are major names being moved around. Each brand needs a nice shakeup and the fans are in need of some major changes as well. I will be back on Tuesday with my draft thoughts and don’t forget Monday’s show is three hours. Here’s hoping things go very well Monday night.
