Reports by the Hartford Courant and the local NBC affiliate station in Connecticut, are reporting that Linda McMahon has resigned from her post on the Connecticut State Board of Education.
McMahon, who is competing for a seat in the US Senate, served on the board for a year. McMahon stated she had to resign “citing a new legal opinion by state election officials that restricts political activities from board members.” The legal opinion was issued last month. In her resignation letter to Governor Jodi Rell, McMahon said the new restrictions “make it impossible for her to remain on the panel and regrets having to quit the board.”
McMahon’s nomination to the board was approved by lawmakers in February 2009 despite opposition from some members of the legislature who questioned the violent and sexually provocative content produced by World Wrestling Entertainment. The WWE has since gone to a more family-friendly TV-PG format style.
